The makings of a new action-adventure movie...
Anti-authority character framed by higher ranking individuals for a crime he didn't commit at sea... While under arrest, the ship is invaded by a high-tech drug cartel bent on obtaining this Navy ship's special cargo... The character soon breaks out of his cell to prevent the drug cartel from stealing the goods...
Navy ship arrives with 7 tons of cocaine
JACKSONVILLE, Florida (AP) -- A Navy ship brought in 15,000 pounds (6,750 kilograms) of cocaine -- valued at about $480 million (euro374.9 million) -- seized in two drug busts in the Pacific Ocean this summer, authorities said.
The USS John L. Hall brought the drugs into Naval Station Mayport on Friday, said Donnie Brzuska, a U.S. Coast Guard spokesman.
The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Alert from Astoria, Oregon, captured the first 5,000 pounds (2,250 kilograms) on June 12 after sharpshooters disabled a speedboat about 150 miles (241 kilometers) northeast of the Galapagos Islands. The speedboat crew was captured boarding a nearby fishing vessel.
On July 7, the USS Hall came across a burning fishing vessel about 72 miles (116 kilometers) southwest of the El Salvador-Guatemala border. After putting out the fire, the crew found 10,000 pounds (4,500 kilograms) of cocaine hidden in secret compartments, authorities said.
Thirteen people were arrested in the operations.
The USS Hall is a guided missile frigate that operates in the Caribbean Sea and near South America, conducting counter-drug operations, according to a U.S. Navy Web site.Last edited by voivod; 08.20.06 at 05:49 PM.
