    Default Hagar Bashing

Let me start by saying that I am a VH fan. I love all eras of the band. I just don't get all of the Sam vs. Dave stuff. Both were great in their time with the band. Both wrote great music with the band. All of it is VH (Edward Van Halen wrote all of the music).

People here get so pissed at Sammy for speaking his mind. He is simply being honest and answering the questions he is asked. I honesty believe that Ed and Sam were very close at one time. Much closer than Ed and Dave ever were. Maybe Sammy talking about Ed's problem is his way of trying to snap him out of whatever he is going through. All speculation of course.

At least Sammy has his own thing going on. He is touring with the Wabos, playing his own material, promoting his business ventures. Dave is still playing only VH songs with one or two solo songs mixed in.

Maybe Dave needs to get a band of his own that he can write new material with. The DLR Band album was one of his best. If he wants any shot of being back in VH he needs to prove that he is capable of leading a top notch rock band in 2007.

At this point I see Sammy as the only alternative. I also see him as the best fit. Edward's writiting is going in many different directions at this point. Sammy's voice and versitility allow Ed to write whatever he wants (ie the "5150" era).

I WANT A NEW VAN HALEN ALBUM! Regardless of the singer. However, at this time I'd prefer Sammy.

Kash - Some solid points. A lot of it has been said, but I respect your opinions on the matter. I like Sam just a bit better for the band too, but if this makes sense, I think the time right now is for Dave. The 2004 tour was not sold properly, and they kind of lost an opportunity. They should have had a full kick ass album and tour...then I believe things would have been different. O well. At this point, I don't even care about a tour..I just want a Sam or Dave led Van Halen album of about 12 songs. Then I don't care if they never come out of their caves again.

I also heard he'd be little more than Billy Squier or Rick Springfield if he'd never joined Van Halen. Is that true?

As a recent addition to VH Links myself, let me say welcome to the new guy.

You'll have to excuse some of the older members. They are battle hardened, grizzled old veterans of the Sam vs. Dave Wars. They're just trying to protect you and help you to learn from their experiences.

These conversations will always happen. Sam? Dave? Gary? Honestly, at this point it’s a lost cause in my opinion. They all contributed to Van Halen on some level. I will always prefer Dave until the end, but my Van Halen albums with Sammy on lead and VHIII with Gary on lead get plenty of play as well.

To me, it has always been about the band as a whole. With Dave they had magic, with Sam they had a more versatile sound they could explore. Gary did this as well, but I think it wasn’t received as well because people in general do not like line-up changes that occur more than once with regard to a lead singer.

Currently, I don’t anticipate Van Halen will ever be back in a capacity that I enjoy, but I am fully prepared to eat those words should the situation present itself.

Hope you're wrong about the lost cause. With no announcements from the band, we'll never know.
