Default DLR: Sturgis, SD 8/12/06 Review & pics

I pasted my review I did over at DDLR.com.

Just got back to California after the trip to South Dakota. I was on the rail(front row) in front of Dave & BYoung for the concert.
    Pics: http://www.dropshots.com/DLRSturgis2006

All in all I would say Dave put on a great show in Sturgis. The rally drew 500,000 people this year. A little background, It was the last day of the Rally so more then half of the campground at Buffalo Chip was already gone. With Camp admission, you get a free concert. The biggest show at the Chip was Gretchen Wilson & Skynyrd earlier in the week around 15,000. The Nuge also had a decent crowd on Thursday.

I got my tickets before I left NorCal so when I got to the venue, I just got a wristband since I wasn't camping. Dave went on at 10:30pm, so we got there around 9:30pm. The place was pretty empty as it holds 15,000 plus. There were about 500 people there. By show time there was around 1000 to 1500 people plus around a couple 100 bikes out on the lawn. Dave wasn't selling T-shirts. So I got to buy a few more beers.

Dave came out with Hot For Teacher as usual. DLR looked great and sounded pretty good. This wasn't the DLR of 1981 or even 1991 but I didn't expect that having seen him several times over the years. He did have the cheesy grin going, which got a few rolls of the eyes from my wife. Dave seemed to be having a great time as was the rest of the band. Very energetic performance. Interacted well with the crowd. There were guys on bikes only 10 to 20 yards or so from the stage that would rev up the engines during breaks in the songs, only at Sturgis. Saw plenty of tit flashing.

The band was solid. BYoung was very good, as was Toshi. Jimmy was solid on the drums.

Pretty standard set list. (Order may be a little off, trying to remember a few days later)

It was a good concert and we had a good time. If DLR is in your area I would check it out. I might see him again in Reno next month.

The paper in Rapid City said Sammy Hagar put on a set full of covers & Cabo adds on Thursday at Glen Coe. He did draw 16,000 with Reo Speedwagon & 38 Special that paid for only the concert.

I wonder if VH1 will show clips from it. The past couple of years they have shown a lot from those concerts.

All Roads Lead to the Chip 2006
The annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota is the world's largest, and VH1 Classic was there! Dee Snider hosts two hours of performances and interviews you won't want to miss. Premieres Saturday at 8pm EST.

Special hosted by Dee Snider with performances from Billy Idol, Foreigner, Blue Oyster Cult and George Thorogood.

The bikers come every year, a half-million strong, to Sturgis, South Dakota for the world's largest annual motorcycle rally. And every year, the bikers ride 10 miles down the highway to "The Chip" -- The Legendary Buffalo Chip Campground to see and hear some of the greatest bands in rock and roll ever perform live.

Highlights include full-performances from the following artists:

A reunited Alice In Chains offers up "It Ain't Like That."

Foreigner, with life-long member Mick Jones and drumming legacy Jason Bonham (also of VH1's "SuperGroup"), deliver ripping renditions of "Hot Blooded" and "Jukebox Hero" -- in a thunderstorm.

Billy Idol performs "Flesh For Fantasy" -- in another thunderstorm.

George Thorogood rocks out with two blues classics: Bo Didley's "Who Do You Love," featuring Dee Snider on maracas and John Lee Hooker's "One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer."

In addition, Dee Snider sits down with Phil Carson, manager to superstar music acts and a bass player with Led Zeppelin back in the day, and with Rod "Woody" Woodruff owner of the Legendary Buffalo Chip and the catalyst behind this annual music extravaganza.

Just saw the commercial, and NO mention of Dave's performance being shown...

I wish they would've shown Roth.

The other acts were pretty good.
