    I'll Wait

I was listening to the remaster version of 1984 and looking at the song credits and notice that the song credits for I'll Wait has Michael McDonald listed on the song, is this the Doobie Brothers Michael McDonald?

Has Eddie or anyone ever said why they collabrated with Michael McDonald?

They never did accept for the fact that they bought the rights to recrod the song.

So did he help Eddie write as a collab or did he write it all together and it's a "cover"? I was always under the impression that MM helped Ed.

I love the solo on this track. Eddie really had clean solo's then, and it flowed so well with the keyboards. I am going to listen to it right now!

If memory serves me correctly, I believe that's actually McDonald on the keys for the CD..

I have always enjoyed "I'll Wait." The cool solo is one reason why. I've always wondered if that was Ed or Mr. McDonald playing the keys. It would be neat if someone could clarify who it was.

I'd say he did the melody line for Dave. Maybe some lyrics, too.

    According to Wikipedia...

"I'll Wait" is another hit from Van Halen's 1984 album, 1984, co-written by former Doobie Brother Michael McDonald. Like their earlier hit Jump from the same album, this song is driven almost entirely by keyboards. David Lee Roth and Ted Templeman wanted the song left off the album and Edward Van Halen and Donn Landee wanted it on and pushed for it. The song is about a girl wearing men's underwear in a Calvin Klein ad and Dave penned the lyrics while looking at the ad while it was tacked onto his Sony Trinitron TV. This was probably the closest the Roth-incarnation of Van Halen ever came to a love song.

I disagree with that last sentence as "Secrets" and "Little Guitars" get pretty close to that mark in their own right.

Let us also remember "Women in Love" and "Little Dreamer..."
In and out. I didn't even make that pun on purpose.
