U.S. Denies Any Vessels Are Unaccounted For

SEOUL, South Korea -- North Korea is claiming it has captured an unmanned U.S. submersible and has put it on display in Pyongyang.

A pro-North Korean newspaper in Japan reported that the small vessel was captured during a reconnaissance mission in waters off North Korea's eastern city of Hamhung.

On the newspaper's Web site, Choson Sinbo, is a picture purported to be of the black torpedo-shaped U.S. vessel.

The United States is dismissing the report. A military spokesman in South Korea said, "We have nothing unaccounted for and there is no way for us to verify that this is a U.S. vessel."

Last September, North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il instructed officials to put the vessel on public display next to the spy ship USS Pueblo, which the communist regime seized along with its crew of 82 on Jan. 23, 1968. One man was killed and several were wounded, according to USSPueblo.org. The 82 surviving crew members were captured and held prisoner for 11 months.
