Default What should my band play?

Ok I'm in a progressive rock band and this summer instead of playing our own stuff we've decided to pay tribute to our influences. We've done a few Pink Floyd albums in their entirety, Fragile & Close To the Edge by Yes, In The Court Of The Crimson King, Leftoverture & Point Of Know Return by Kansas and Foxtrot by Genesis. In sticking with Genesis, we're kinda stuck on what the next album we're gonna play is gonna be...we are stuck between Selling England By The Pound and Lamb Lies Down On Broadway.

Are you keeping strictly to the Gabriel era? If so, "The Lamb" is a no-brainer.

If you wanna knock em dead however (and you're feeling overly ambitious), go back a few and see if you guys can master "The Fountain of Salmacis".

Rush is on the list...we're gonna get through a couple Genesis albums then move onto Rush. As far as Genesis we'd like to stick with Gabriel era but I have considered A Trick Of The Tail.

When you get to Rush, I suggest "Jacob's Ladder".

If I was playing Genesis, I would cover Land Of Confusion. There is a new band called Disturbed that is covering it right now, so even teenagers would know the song.

I was familiar with the Genesis version LONG before the Disturbed version. I'd still take the Genesis version over Disturbed's, but they did a pretty good job. That's probably the Genesis song I'd be most likely to cover, even though I'm not sure how late in Genesis' career you're willing to go...

I was driving with my mom, and she flipped on Q101. I could SWEAR it sounded like Genesis' version before we turned it up and figured it out. I hate Disturbed, but they did a damn fine job with it
In and out. I didn't even make that pun on purpose.

Good, you are a smart kid. I doubt half the kids in your class even know who Genesis is though. You are right, the original Genesis version is better.

"Ripples" would simply flatten folk if played live.

That would be an astute choice, and highly recommended!
