    Default RNR HOF Protest

Anyone up for a road trip? I'll bring the bottle of Smoking Loon if someone else can dress like Dave.

    http://www.cnn.com/2006/SHOWBIZ/Musi....ap/index.html

CLEVELAND, Ohio (AP) -- About 200 Kiss fans protested in front of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum to demand that the band be inducted into the hall.

Fans, some from as far away as California, carried signs Saturday and had painted their faces in black-and-white to resemble Kiss band members.

Those participating in the half-hour demonstration were upset that the band, formed more than 30 years ago, has not been admitted, even though it has been eligible since the late 1990s.

Artists become eligible for induction 25 years after the release of their first record, according to the museum's Web site.

"Criteria include the influence and significance of the artist's contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll," the site says.

A museum spokesman said it was the first demonstration by fans seeking to have a group inducted.

The foundation that selects inductees is based in New York City, not at the museum.

"hard to believe anyone cares about KISS".....are you kidding me? Do you know how many people are walking around with KISS tattoos right now? KISS is a part of Americana, just as much as Early Van Halen.
In 1996 (not 1976,but 1996) when the original band reunited, they sold out Tiger Stadium in 30 minutes!
Gene Simmons has not one, not 2 but 3 tv shows...My Dad the Rock Star(cartoon), Rock School(Simmons is the teacher), and now Family Jewels airs this week!!
Simmons has been on MTV's CRIBS, and even had his own magazine called "Tongue". Go on ebay, if you don't believe me. KISS merchandise goes for crazy money! KISS is beyond the 4 members. It has become a lifestyle with conventions, weddings, thousands of tribute bands, and even a KISS cafe. KISS is everywhere.

WRONG! I believe our very own Lodewijk protested outside the museum just a couple of years ago with signs and all. Well, technically it wasn't fanS (plural) but it WAS the ONE and ONLY, true, blue, and rabid fan.........LODEWIJK! Obviously the woman doesn't have a CLUE what she's talking about!

Yeah, seriously. I mean, freakin' MILES DAVIS is more deserving to be in the R&R Hall of Fame than the mighty Van Halen?! That boggles my mind...

Miles Davis?! Now your cranking on Miles Davis? Maybe he shouldn't be in the R & R HoF (except maybe for Bitches Brew), but he deserves to be in the Jazz (I don't know if he is) and American Music HoF...The guy was a genius.

Anyway, I think Kiss is crap, but that's a personal opinion (I can't stand rap either but I digress). I do think they deserve to be in the R & R HoF though...the Kiss Army has been going on and strong since 1976. Too many rabid fans to ignore.

The long and short of it is the induction process needs to be revamped. The editor of Rolling Stone Magazine should not have as much control over who gets in and who doesn't....that should be up to the fans or at least a wider scope of music media types.

Museum or Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

A museum spokesman said it was the first demonstration by fans seeking to have a group inducted.
    ... and I say !!! ROCK ON !!!

I mean, c'mon, the freakin PRETENDERS are in there, but one of the biggest R&R acts on the planet isnt?
    ... excellent point

KISS is a part of Americana, just as much as Early Van Halen.
"Criteria include the influence and significance of the artist's contributions to the development and perpetuation of rock and roll," the site says.
It's plain and simple a real shame that KISS still aren't in the RnR-HoF.

Miles Davis' contributions to the Jazz world are endless, but look at me with a straight face and tell me that he should be in the R&R HOF. That's all I was saying.

I still haven't figured out why the R&R Hall of Fame gets people so worked up over nothing.

Oh BTW Kiss blows. Hardly a big loss that they're not in.

Um, in the music world, Miles Davis' legacy is leagues beyond that of Van Halen. His contributions to rock-jazz fusion are acknowleged worldwide among virtually all wise in the industry. Ed and Al included.

And agreed, Kiss blows. Hack kitsch lip sync at best.

Van Halen getting into the Hall of Fame doesn't matter anymore. The kudos aren't necessary nor warranted by the voters, who are a bunch of numbnuts anyway. As relevant as Rolling Stone.

I guess the reason people always have to bring this up every year is the hope that it will be the ONLY way Dave and Ed will appear onstage ever again, if indeed they show up at all. At this point, I'd put even odds on Ed pulling a Sex Pistols rebellion-type response.

Dave, of course, would be there with bells and spandex on.

[/QUOTE]I totally agree with that statement. It's no real use anymore to hope for the RRHOF unless its the only way to get DLR back.
    Just go for it!
