Coaches rank Buckeyes No. 1, ahead of Longhorns

Defending national champion Texas is ranked No. 2, behind Ohio State, in the preseason USA Today Coaches' Poll, released Thursday.

USC, which lost to the Longhorns in the Rose Bowl, and Notre Dame are tied at No. 3.

Oklahoma -- a team that may struggle to retain a top 10 spot after dismissing quarterback Rhett Bomar this week -- is ranked fifth.

Auburn, West Virginia, Florida, LSU and Florida State round out the top 10.

The top six teams all received at least one vote for No. 1.

The USA TODAY Board of Coaches is made up of 63 head coaches at Division I-A institutions. All are members of the American Football Coaches Association.

Hey Lode...you'll love this! Word is that this will be Carr's final year coaching the maize and blue. My dad is an alum and keeps in touch with many of the regents. I guess they already have a package laid out to move him off of the sidelines and up into the athletic department and he has agreed to the deal.
Apparently the change was not made now due to recruiting issues. I know that sounds vague but I'll pass along more when I hear it as to why they are waiting.

Clarett arrested after freeway chase; guns found in vehicle

Former Ohio State University running back Maurice Clarett was stopped early this morning after a freeway chase on the East Side. Loaded weapons were found in his vehicle.

Police said that Clarett resisted arrest and was wearing a bullet-proof vest that frustrated attempts to use a taser on him.

WBNS 10TV reported that police initially tried to stop Clarett around 2:30 a.m. for making a U-turn on Brice Road. Clarett then led police on a chase on I-70 to Rt. 256 in Pickerington. Clarett then got back on I-70 westbound, where tire spikes were used to slow his vehicle.

Clarett exited the freeway at Brice Road, where he was finally stopped and arrested in a restaurant parking lot.

Police said they found three handguns and an assault rifle in the vehicle. All the weapons were loaded, and additional ammunition was discovered in the vehicle. Police said they also found a half-empty bottle of vodka in the vehicle.

LSU has a bitch for a schedule this year. On the road with Auburn, Florida, Tennesse, and Arkansas. 3 out of the 4 will be tough as hell. On top of that we have Fresno St. coming to LSU along with Bama, who all ways plays LSU tough at home. On top of that, our O-line is questionable along with our LB's. 8-4?

Last night my son and I joined 28,000 in Ohio Stadium to watch Ohio State's practice. We had a great time. The Horeshoe is truly a wonder to behold. Wasn't quite the same as a Saturday w/100,000+, but a thrill none the less, especially for my boy. I took him to a game in 2002 vs. Kent State, but he was only 3 and it was hot (literally, after the 2nd series, he asked if it was time to leave yet!). So, I waited to return until he was old enough to appreciate it. He is playing organized football now. During the walk to the stadium, we talked about my time at the university, the history (Woody, Archie, etc.).

Highlights from practice:

The stretching, calisthenics and footwork drills. My son enjoyed the fact that the Buckeyes go through similar routines as his little league football team (high knees, grave vine, etc.).
Ginn returning punts/kicks: pure, world class speed.
The OH-IO chat from opposite sides of the field.
My son proclaiming: "I will be playing on this field some day"

There was a prepractice autograph session, lines were long and I wasn't sure my son wanted to wait. Yesterday was the first day of school, and mom didn't want him out late. However, after practice, as we were leaving, he said "Dad, I am glad we waited and watched practice. One day, I am going to bring my son here". <sniff, sniff>

We are looking forward to the season!
