I don't know, a lot of what I hear in these songs is similar to his odd "noodling" solos on the 2004 tour. It seems to be what he's into musically at this time.

Then again it's hard to judge exactly what he's into these days?

at any rate, the new tunes the guys did in 04, myself, like many here heard and saw it during soundcheck with no words. sounds much different. ed doing this is obviously a rapid departure from vh so people need to get over that.

to me, ed is just screaming emotion through his guitar in these tunes. sure, it's not what we want, but who cares. if you listen, or play any music, ed still has some mean licks and some neat little tricks going on.

it's not an eruption, passion and warfare, or extremist album, but hey, it'd ed. i dig it.

Well, he's not writing a VH tune for this project, so we shouldn't expect a blazing riff and dive bombs and squeals etc. I think the idea for a piece of music for film is that it adds to the ambience, mood, and feel of the film without dominating it. In other words, you should not really be all that aware of the music as it is playing, but it should have a subtle impact on the viewer. An artsy porn flick soundtrack is not the place for Eddie to be coming up with Eruption part II, or to be showing people hey look what I can do, here's a new technique I came up with.

I rather like Catherine, but Rise leaves me rather uninspired. It doesn't make my fur rise, as Eddie would say. It's ok, but just ok. Eddie is an extremely gifted musician and he is capable of writing all kinds of different music. I don't think we should expect an Unchained type riff every time he picks up the guitar. If he wants to work on different projects and play different types of music, then I don't see what the big deal is really. Coaches and managers always say that if you start listening to the fans you soon find yourself sitting next to them. Eddie's responsibility is to himself as an artist first. He's on his own artistic journey and needs to do what he needs to do. If it means doing a bizzare jam at a Flower show or scoring a porn flick, then so what really? If I had a nickel for every time I watched porn in my life, I'd make Bill Gates look poor. Imagine if Hemingway listened to every critic and fan who told him what type of novel he should write next.

My only hope is that Eddie be a little more communicative with the fans, just to stay in touch once in a while and give us a little update, even something like a statement through the website once in a while...and of course I want him to be healthy and have a positive direction to his life.

maybe ed feels any publicity is good publicity. maybe this kind of relationship with hardcore goth porn stirs up more reaction than if he put out a quiet little cd of diddys and tracks he thought he d share with his fans. just a theory. maybe the tail is wagging the dog.

i think the song is mediocre , it has a catchy riff you can hum. but i agree it sounds like hes noodling over top.

Musicians usually play how they feel. If that is what Eddie felt about the movie so be it.

I get the feeling that some folks are expecting 'Unchained' or 'Panama' everytime Eddie straps on a guitar. That's okay but is it realistic?

I'm just glad he's releasing some stuff for us to hear. As I've stated before, it's also encouraging that he can even legally do it, since I suspect that WB's has had him by the balls for years. Maybe he's no longer beholden to them, I don't know. Regardless of what one thinks of this new stuff, it may open some doors to more independent "EVH" projects in the future, and that's a good thing in my opinion. Now, what would really make me cream my pants is an EP or an entire CD with a kick ass producer and a few other great musicians (including Al).

While I didn't necessarily enjoy the disjointed solos on these new tracks, I really like some of the rythymn stuff and catchy hooks he's got going on in these songs. Note that he seems to incorporate several of these cool hooks at the same time and never really develops them individually, but instead goes right on to the next one. Also, I think they're truly written as a soundtrack. In other words, music used purely as a backdrop to the actual screwing, sucking, licking, etc. happenning onscreen.
