The Official Eddie Van Halen Appreciation Thread

I'm not sure if this has been done, but I think at this time we need it. Eddie is getting out, performing, and releasing new music for the first time in a couple years. I know a lot of you (me included) thought we'd have another six year wait or God-forbid no more new music from Eddie, but we got it! So, let's keep this thread free of bitching. A fully positive thread on how Eddie (Edward) Van Halen has kept us enthralled by his music for all of these years. As fans, we should encourage Mr. Van Halen to expand his musical horizons as much as possible. There will always be haters, but at the same time, there will always be fans who will be anxious to hear anything they can (even 30 second YouTube clips) from this musical genius. Eddie, if you're out there, please keep making music...no matter who or what it is for. Thanks for the great songs, inspiration, and entertainment!

Default Since the very first time I heard him playing the guitar

I have appreciated Eddie's talent as a musician. I was lucky enough to have attended a Van Halen concert in Seattle, Washington I believe the year was either 1980 or 1981. It was the first rock concert I ever went to and I was 13 years old. I went with a friend who was determined to get to the front row. That is exactly where we ended up, right in front of Eddie. Of course we were right in front of his speakers which is where he stood. I remember thinking that he looked exactly like he did on the music videos on MTV. Corny I know... I had a crush - after looking up at his cute face admiring him, I got distracted by the music he was making on his guitar, I took advantage of the moment and just stared at his fingers moving all over the neck of his guitar. I couldn't believe how fast he was playing, how flawlessly, I thought, I couldn't do that without looking at the strings! I looked up to see if he was looking at the strings and he was looking down at me smiling, with that killer sweet smile.....I smiled right back at him and with that he took off to center stage and did his thing. He cold busted me in awe of his playing.. Sooo Cooool....I'll never forget it. I take you Many years into the future, I stumble upon this site. I found out that Van Halen IS ON TOUR. I read about All Access.. I go online and I get one ticket. NOT MISSING THIS. I figured, they are playing the day after my birthday, what better way to turn thirty whatever than to go to a Van Halen concert and feel like a kid again? Hurricane came and it was re-scheduled - ( I moved to Ft. LAuderdale )It was awesome. Eddie was in a great mood at the sound check, played whatever we wanted to hear, gave us guitar picks and slapped our hands. Michael Anthony came out and played a bit, signed our passes and promised shots! I met a couple and we got to talking at the backstage party and it turned out that they knew someone back stage - the guy they knew came in to the party and invited us to go backstage with him and we went.. While back there we ran into Michael Anthony.. I got so excited and I said hi to him with a big smile and thanked him sincerely for all of the years of music. He was genuinely humbled and so sweet. I asked him if he would take a picture with me and he did...I went to kiss him on the cheek and he turned his head and guess where it landed? yup...Planted a big wet kiss right on him... He didn't mind... I would post the picture and the others I took but I am not sure how to do it.. Any way, the concert was great, I loved it, Eddie played great, Michael was a darlin' guy and Sammy sang great. Eddie had a good time, that was clear, he was very friendly, very much the performer I saw years ago. Very much and awesome musician. Alex was awesome too - I got two of his drum sticks while back stage. I'll never forget it. I appreciate all of them and I am thankful that I at least got to thank Michael Anthony very sincerely for all of the years of music..If I had seen Eddie back there I would have thanked him too.......As for Eddies recent choice of composing music for an adult film, I am glad he is doing something, sounds like he is very proud of it and he should be, I haven't heard the new music yet - can't down load it damn pc...but he must like it, we have always taken to his choice of music haven't we- so there you go. Maybe it is just hard to get used to something different because it has been so long since we have recieved something new from him.. At least we are getting... I'm glad he is too busy to talk to Howard Stern. If he ever does read this, I am glad this thread was created so that I could say to him," Thank you for the years of awesome music Eddie, I really appreciate them, the smile you gave to a 13 year old girl, and for the chance to see you play the guitar again in 2004. xoxo

I can't say one bad word about him because of all the great music and inspiration.
No matter what he does I'll stay a hardcore Eddie fan.

I love Ed He has been such an inspiration to me
and always will be. I will never forget the first time I saw
him in concert 4 rows away from the stage and he blew me away.
Looking up at him seeing that famous Ed grin was amazing and
seeing him play and having a kick ass time was freakin awesome.
I think if Eddie were to say hes retiring I would be ok with
it because he has done so much already as a musician

Eddie if your out there reading this
Love ya babe....your still the best.
