Default For once, I am ashamed to be a VH diehard fan

Last weekend, I went on a little get-a-way with some friends... after a few drinks at a local pub ( talking about VH, Cabo, Panama intro, Sam Vs Dave ), we were strolling past a cd store & I thought I would pic up a cd for the ride back to the hotel. Anyway, it came down to strumming Vs the VH tribute cd ( goerge Lynch, Ratt etc.. ) I went for the " sure bet" & got strummin..

I was the laughing stock of the group. I tried to laugh along but the more we listened to it, I couldnt belive what the Icon, the juggernaught, the immortal VH had came to.

long gone are the fond memories of Ed shit faced grin and Dave's high kicks..now replaced with that banjo playing fool & Dave forever ruining jump.

If anyone ever wonders how VH could get lower than III, buy this.

FYI, incase anyone wants a free copy the CD is still in its new case in a plastic bag on the side of the freeway 30 miles north of West Palm Beach. ( I missed the road sign I was aiming for )

I used to shake my head at people who put on long rants, I guess I now undertand their greif.... ugggggggggghhhhhh.
Sam, Dave,Gary... who cares. its all about what makes you feel good.

You DO realize that "Strummin' is neither a Dave nor a Van Halen album? It's a tribute. Just about everyone has a bluegrass tribute out. It doesn't make the band that wrote the music suck...it's just a different interpretation OF said music.

I thought it was great, but I sing country for a living. It's the same guys that did the metallica bluegrass record,"Fade to Bluegrass" These guys are musical monsters having fun with tunes they grew up on. Nothing more. I think Dave appreciated that.

Roth kicked major ass last night performing better than I have ever seen from him, he is long from done. Don't be ashamed from a tribute CD. Ps.. I like the disc, but I also like Danny Gatton and other picking type music that would make some die hard rock fans uncomfortable.

    Ah, hell, man...lighten up...

BTW, I can see both sides of the arguement. I just had the same conversation with a good friend of mine on Friday night who actually brought the subject up about Dave 'ruining the legacy'. He specifically asked my opinion on it because he knows what a die-hard I am and wanted my take on it. I told him that I could see where certain people might not dig Dave singing on and promoting that album but, it's just that, nothing more. I'm sure Dave was paid a nice little check to do the two tunes and go and promote it a bit - end of story. It's NOT a Van Halen record - it's somebody else's take on the stuff. Nothing more, nothing less. Now if VH WERE to do an album like that, then I could see the arguement, but, I bet a LOT of people would dig that, too. If you so happen to not dig the bluegrass versions of those tunes, you probably didn't like bluegrass to begin with. After hearing what I had to say, he now wants a copy to hear for himself. I think I kinda made HIM feel a little bit bad for judging the whole thing without being properly educated on the subject...

As for the record itself, yeah, it's hit-and-miss but some of the stuff, IMHO, is killer, especially the version of Hot For Teacher. I specifically like it because of the LACK of vocals on it. And, becuase it just plain SMOKES...

    Just my $.02...

    What he said. ^

Not being a bluegrass fan, I'd never pick up something bluegrass - VH or otherwise. Plus the thought of any Halen being bluegrassed out is just too much for my mind to comprehend.

Yes, you're right, but Dave is promoting it on his site. I think that says alot.

I don't get this. Someone made a VH tribute album with bluegrass music, and this is VH's fault? WTF? Now I've heard everything.

I'm not sure how exactly "Strummin'" was the "sure bet?" Based on what? You should have bought the tribute with the metal shredders, at least the songs sound like hard rock.

    Don't be ashamed.

It's being a fan during the bad times as well as the good times that make you a die-hard fan. Have I enjoyed seeing what has happened to my favorite band over the past few years? Besides the shows that I saw in 2004 no but I still stick by them.
