Putting a Fernandes sustainer in a Wolfgang

I've been entertaining the idea of installing a Fernandes sustainer in my Wolfgang EXP, but I'm unfamiliar with how they work. Would I have to actually replace the neck pickup in my Wolf in order to use the sustainer, or would it work fine with the Wolf's pickup? Any help would be hot, because I'm really not familiar with this. Thanks!

You won't be able to fit it in along with your current neck pickup. It is possible to fit another single-coil sized pickup next to it if you get the single-coil sized sustainer driver, but the driver does work as a pickup also.

I'm not sure how big the circuit board on the Fernandes unit is, but you will want to find out first. You may need to route out space for it if your rear cavity isn't big enough already. You will also need somewhere for the battery box.

You'll have to remove the neck pickup. The Sustainer unit will fit in the neck pickup cavity. It can act as a pickup in the off position. When it is on, regardless of what position the pickup selector is in, it will turn the bridge pickup on and the sustainer will cause the strings to vibrate. You'll have to remove more material to install the sustainer. I've got a Fernandes Dave Kushner guitar with the sustainer installed. If you like I can send you a picture of the unit installed.

Send me an email if you need it.

Thanks for all of your help, guys! I really don't want to remove my Wolfgang's neck pickup though. It sounds like this whole project entails a lot of work and money, so I'm gonna put this idea on hold for now.

It is expensive, but, if you do eventually decide to go through with it, have it done by a pro. It'll cost a little more but will be worth it.

    Default p.s.

Or, try an eBow. It'll give you a similar effect for less than $100.

Does someone know the dimensions of the circuit board, that would help me greatly, I've searched but came up with nothing.
