I'll second and third that...even though I can't stand VHIII...this tour was much better than the album.

I dunno about all that. Ed and the band as a whole were great on the WACF tour, and they were pretty tight on the MOR/OU812 tour as well. I like the VH3 tour and all, but Ed wasn't nearly as good as he was in his prime.

Damn, pretty strong comment there. EVER? I dunno man, that's not saying a whole lot about their other tours. The III tour was good, but...it's still Cherone...

The tightest the band has ever been, and one of the most underrated tours because of Gary fronting the band. Ed fired on all cylinders every night, totally on top of his game, and shredded on the old stuff.

This is great. Ed's great, band is tight. Gary is a bit of a tool, but what the hell.
Only got to see the band once on this tour, but it was my personal favorite in one sense -- we got to hear a good portion of the entire catalog.
My preference for VH would be to have Sam in the band, but for touring he just isn't willing to do enough of the old stuff. It's too damn bad his ego is that big, but so be it.
A tour with Dave would have to be exclusively CVH stuff (unless Mikey, who probably is out of this band sang the Hagar-era tunes), and that would be disappointing. Not only that, I can't imagine that Ed could live with playing only music from the distant past. If they could get a record together, it would be fine but it seems there is VERY little chance of that happening.
I saw VH with Dave on the 1984 tour, and I remember leaving that show thinking -- damn, Dave is one unprofessional son of a bitch. Forgetting lyrics, not singing well at all. I've seen Dave three times solo, and every time I left feeling the same way. It's the reason I prefer Sam over Dave.
I saw the Van Hagar version many, many times and I just can't believe they let it slip away after Balance. They were incredible on that tour, and made I think the best record they'd made with Sam.
The 2004 tour was a bit disappointing (saw Sacramento, Oakland, and Fresno shows). I thought Ed was great in Sacramento, but it was like a different man up there for Oakland and Fresno for some of the songs.
Unfortunately for all of us here, I think the last thing we'll see VH do is play with both Sam and Dave at the RRHOF. It sucks, but it's probably all we'll get.
I'm afraid Ed and Sam together killed this band for all intents and purposes in 1996. Doesn't matter who you believe, it seems to me they both acted like a couple of spoiled kids who didn't have everything go there way and just gave up.
Any chance VH had after that was pissed away with the Dave hype and MTV appearance and all that. It completely burned the fans, and then killed any chance Gary Cherone had of making it work. It was as stupid a move as the Sam/Ed breakup.
I hope I'm wrong, but I'm afraid its RIP for VH.

I'll see what I have saved on my PC, because I just can't agree that that tour was the tightest the band ever was.

All you guys should break out your boots from the first tour, man. Even in the club days the boys were tight as fuck, and Roth was doing his thing too. The 3 tour was great, but come on.

I'd even argue that they were tighter on the FUCK/RHRN tour.

That sums it up for me too. Not to discredit fuck or balance or even way earlier tours, but man, he was tight.

Sucka, well of course you are just wrong, simple as that.

I will give you the band was very tight on the first tour, and Dave sounded better than he ever has.

You'd be right. They were also tighter on the Balance tour. And the Diver tour, and the first tour with Sabbath.

The III tour was a good live outing, barring the subpar material from the album, but doesn't come close to several other distinguished live efforts from Edward and company.

Totally disagree on the Diver Down tour. The Balance tour was some of Ed's stalest playing ever, a borefest by VH standards...and I like Balance.

    VH 1 tour was tight.
