    Default MXR Echoplex?

OK we have the MXR Phaser EVH, MXR Flanger EVH, we all know what Ed used in the early days, where or has anyone heard of the Echoplex from MXR that Ed might be tinkering with? We also have a black/ yellow stripe configuration that needs taken up still. Anything?? For that matter what about the Charvel Wolfgang or Fender Amp?

yeah I think the Echoplex with black and yellow stripes, Charvel Wolfgang and Fender 5150 will coincide with the release of the studio album with Gary from 1999, the tracks with Dave 2000-2003 and Eddie's ten Albums worth of music.

Sorry, that was kinda jacked...in all honesty I wouldnt hold my breath for a new amp or guitar from Eddie and any company anytime soon. What would be the point of a company putting money into a product that even the general public would know the endorsee doesnt use because he's not putting out new music/touring. In the case of the EVH phase and flanger both are mainly nostoglia pieces in my opinion. A new amp/guitar would be the begining of a new era of Ed's tone, one that any endorsing company would want either on tour or on an album and if niether looks like it is going to happen anytime soon then why bother. Trust me though, if a new guitar/amp/album ever came out, Im the first one in line.

He quit using the Echoplex years ago contrary to the phase and flanger, they're still on his pedalboard. so it wouldn't make sense to release an Echoplex plus an Echoplex demands maintenance, some technical skills, the will to clean heads, tape, I'm not sure most guitar players would be too crazy about doing that kind of thing.

I tend to agree with Berseker, the original Echoplex (although romantically remembered by all as having a wonderful tone) was really a pain-in-the-neck to use. It was a tape based echo with all the issues of using tape, not the least of which being the additional NOISE. I saw some pics of Eddie's pedalboard from the 2004 shows and I thought I saw a Line 6 echo modeler on it, which really makes sense. Even the old Roland delays he was so fond of in the past can be easily emulated with software now.

I doubt MXR would go through the trouble to reissue the Echoplex with Ed, if at all. If anything, they *could* (but I doubt it) engineer their own echo modeler.

I've been using a cheap Alesis digital effects unit for delay, and quite honestly both live and in the studio, as long as I get the right about of spank back in the echo, it doesn't really matter what BOX does the echo. Tone, being so subjective as it us, comes more from the hands, preamp, guitar, & speakers much more than the echo unit.

So you guys don't think there is a prototype Wolfgang in 5150 as we speak? I tend to agree about the money/ marketing without VH on the road or albums being made, but trust me I can guarantee you that there is some Ed only prototypes of a someday wolfgang. As far as the MXR... not necessarily an echoplex as we know it from the 70's, but a Cathedral echo unit would bring in the same demand that the other EVH gear has brought in, nostalgia, SURE but profitable nun the less. Don't be surprised to see a EVH Echo Unit in the future.

Why would they ever make a sigature Echoplex? Eddie never really used the Echoplex other than in live performances. I can only recall two songs where Eddie used it: Number One Cathedral, number two the solo in Black And Blue. What would be they point for them to ever produce a signature Echoplex, or any signature delay unit for that matter, that he only used on two recordings?

i dont think he used the echoplex on those songs. i believe the echoplex was replaced by a roland space echo unit by the very early 80s. who knows what went in his rack after that.

eddie said he hated the echoplex because the tape cartridge kept popping out and the gears/tape heads were always breaking.

he did however use the echoplex on "eruption" and "aint talkin bout love." also you can hear it on live bootlegs from the 78 tour and before during his solos and "eruption."

lastly why make a cathedral delay pedal ? you can get the cathedral setting with almost and delay pedal or unit out there. the delay is only a small part , hammering the notes and doing the volume swells with the volume knob is part of it too.

I think he used the echoplex for the "Beat It" solo too, "Eruption" was the Univox EC-80, especially for the end growl.

Well I really don't know if he used the echoplex at all on the recordings, but he used the shit out of it live, in fact he had TWO echoplex's on his rig back then, I remember seeing pics of the pedal board and seeing two of them so he had different delay settings for what he wanted apparently.

Now while I agree with all of you on why would MXR put out a delay like this when "almost" any delay unit can produced the cathedral sound, but his unit was modded pretty heavey as usual per his equipment you don't quit get the full delay sound on other pedals. Now while saying that there is no need to make an EVH Echo Unit... was there any need for a phaser? The unchained sound flanger I can see a little more on producing, but still there are already units that can flange and phase but yet MXR saw the Ed loyalty and saw dollar signs... admit it if MXR made an EVH Echo you'd buy it. That's my point his fans would still buy such a unit. So I was just saying.. how much longer till it's made?

Well for me, I don't buy equipment because of who's endorsing it. I buy it because I need it, or actually like it. For me, I'd have absolutely no need for an echo unit simply because EVH endorsed it. Pointless for me. The EVH Phase 90 is nice because it offers both the Block and Script logo'd versions of the regular Phase 90's. I'd have bought that pedal if Michael Jackson was endorsing it.

well, back when the EVH flanger came out, i predicted an EVH wah would come out as well. In fact, I photoshopped this...

and now, judging by EVH's most recent gig pics, it looks like he's sporting a black/white stripped dunlop!
