Default Paul Gilbert dedicates a New song to Eddie

Paul Gilbert releases his first all-guitar instrumental album "GET OUT OF MY YARD!" soon. And It includes a song called "Three E's for Edward".

I found his latest interview appeared in current issue of Japanese magazine YOUNG GUITAR. Paul says that "This song is dedicated to Eddie. He is not active for a long time, and I am anxious about his condition. I want to listen to his new music more."

Though I do not yet listen to this song, it seems to be a feeling such as "Spanish fly".
He says that "Three E is a meaning of three E strings."

Paul is a very gifted guitar player. He played with Mr. Big, and is also in the band Racer X. He's also a great guy. This is pretty cool of him.

man I would love it if Paul toured behind this album, I've never seen him live and his stuff with Mr Big is just insane. His playing seems a little more "grounded" to me than say that of Vai and Satriani. He always struck me as the perfect balance between a Malmsteen and Vai. His playing is sick for the guy who asked who he was, melodically the guy has chops, his phrasing is amazing and chop for chop hes one of the best out there....
    Van Halen....nothing else is needed....

Add me to the list of people who know the name, but couldn't tell you one musical contribution he's made to the world.
Actually I think most of us are Dave, Sam, and Mike fans. There's just a small group of people who have strange allegiances and like to get into petty pissing contests that I can't believe everyone on this site isn't bored of. - Brett

wasn't there a time when there was a "feud" between Ed and Paul....I guess that Paul was using a power drill on his guitar about the same time that Poundcake came out....both were saying that the other ripped them off....then I remember reading something about Paul getting his hair caught up in his drill on stage during his solo.....anyone else remember this?

The list goes on and on. While you may never have heard any of this you should go out and down load some of it. He and Billy Sheean really are over the top together and Pat Torpey is a really tight Drummer.

I like Addicted to that Rush and the album with Green Tinted Sixties Mind on it...

I do have to disagree with mookie a bit...

I thought Pat Torpey was a hackjob of a drummer. I guess I was thinking that in the days of playing along to Neil Peart for two hours a day...

Colorado Bulldog kicks ass! That whole album rocks pretty good.

yeah I heard about the drill debate and getting caught in his hair. You know, I've discovered things on my own and went "Wow," only to find out later on someone else already did that. Same thing probably happened w/ Ed.

PG is an awesome guitar player and human and has a great sense of humor. One of my favorites is "Scarified."

    Gilbert

I met Paul Gilbert once when I was still in Cincinnati and Mr Big came to town....Saw him at a music store there...He is a very cool individual, and a great player...I think also he was a teacher at GIT...This guy can hold his own with any of the greats...I own all the Mr Big stuff....its definetly worth having...but be advised...he left Mr Big and they recorded with Ritchie Kotzen for an album or two...so make sure which Guitarist you are getting...Gilbert left in 1996 I believe....

I was at an Atomic Punks show about 5 years ago (Brian Young was still in the band) at the Anaheim House of Blues. Paul Gilbert took over for Brian Young for a few minutes and played "Hot For Teacher" with the band. He was fantastic!

As far as I read there was no feud at all. Ed was using the drill over the pickups as an effect. Paul gilbert had plectrums on his and basically used to speed pick, if you can believe it. He was astonishing. He did, as you said, manage to get his hair caught in the drill.
A mate of mine went to the drum part of MIT in LA early nineties and said that Paul Gilbert (who was only about 18 at the time) was a legend there. One of the best teachers and apparently a really really nice guy. He said that he used to walk around everywhere with his guitar strapped on just plinking away constantly, something that all the students picked up on very quickly. He said walking around the school was like hearing bees everywhere.
