Default Sweet, sweet vacation - say hey from Cape Cod

Got here about noon, got a nice cottage with central air 500 feet from the beach, planning to play a ton of golf if my back holds up, got a six pack of Sam's Summer Ale in the fridge, soon to be joined by a lot of Coronas when I can get to the package store.

Ahhh, two weeks with nothing I have to do - I haven't had two weeks off work since I was out of work for a month over 5 years ago - and that sure as fuck wasn't a good time. I've never taken a two week vacation, ever. I'll check in with work email and voice mail once a day, but that's no big deal - nothing else to do while my daughter takes her daily nap anyway. Besides, it gave me an excuse to drag my laptop, cable modem and wireless router down here.

We'll have a nice family routine - we all go out the front door - the wife and kids take a left to the beach (on a short private road that ends in a private beach), I'll take a right and head to a golf course.

I'd say life is good, except with my luck, my back will fire up, so I won't push it. All I will say is that I had surgery recently, and every time I was in serious pain during my recovery (nothing major, just a pain in the ass recovery), I'd immediately relax by thinking of these two weeks.

Sorry for the self indulgence of starting a thread about this, but fuck it

Same rough area - West Dennis, not too far from the Yarmouth line.

I was just up in Truro. My-laws rented a place up there and my wife and I went to visit for a long weekend. Now, especially after reading IED's post, I want to go back.
I hope you took your Van Halen with you!

Yup, got my entire collection of studio CD's in the car, and my IPOD has all of the live stuff I've downloaded from this site, so I'm good

We were in this same cottage for a week last year, and are intending to make this a regular two week gig every year. As long as the owners keep it up for rent these two weeks, and as long as we have the not insignificant amount of money it costs available, we'll do it, as long as the kids are around anyway, and seeing as how they are 2 and 9, should be for years to come. My wife used to come down to this same street for two weeks every summer when she was a kid. Funny how that works, eh? Didn't do anything remotely like this when I was a kid...

Have you and the family hit any restaurants while there? How's the food? Costly?

I've always wanted to visit there. Maybe when I hit the lottery...

Hope you folk are having a splendid time, from the sound of it you deserve it!

    All the best,

Thank you. I'm ignoring the Norse idiot.

It is nice - been hot, but a strong breeze coming off the water has it pretty reasonable - well, that and the air conditioning.

Only problem is that my 9 year old has recently decided to go early entry into his teens. What a fucking PUNK. The mouth on that kid - argues with everything we say, regardless. The parent's curse has come to fruition, but I don't think I was nearly this bad. Our problem is I don't think we punish him enough - we just yell at him, and he yells back, LOL. I seem to recall some long groundings in my day, which I don't think we do enough of.

Ah, well, the joys of parenthood. All things considered, he's a good kid, so I'm not going to bitch TOO much. Just a little...

Chef - we don't do much around restaurants when we're down here. Dropping a few $k's on the cottage is plenty, we do some quick take out or fire up the grill for food. However, I have done restaurants down here in the past, and they run the gamut. But, you can get really good food for a decent price, that's for sure. Especially if you like seafood, obviously, which unfortunately I don't.

Offseason the Cape is pretty darn reasonable. A lot of stuff closes up after Labor Day, but not everything, and the hotels and such come down in price. Because it juts out into the water, the weather tends to be pretty mild too. I've been down here golfing in February before.
