Anyone know of a good place to buy an EBMM Axis?

So, today, I'm in Guitar Center, which if I'm not mistaken, is the "brick-and-mortar" front to Musician's Friend, who, the last time I checked, sold the EBMM Axis in the catalog (their current stock says "expected 08/04"). I asked this guy if they had one, and he says:

"No man, in fact I've worked here almost two years, and I've never seen one. You'd have to pick one up used..."

...as if to say they're DISCONTINUED. Although I haven't found anything on the internet (or elsewhere) to indicate that this might be the case, I am also having an extremely difficult time tracking one down.

Does anyone around here know if the *gulp* Axis is being discontinued, and if NOT (oh god, I hope not), where to find them? I already emailed Ernie Ball, and the response I got contained some leads that ALL turned up empty.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I think the Gold is the closeout... not Natural.

Hey man, here is the email I got from Customer Service...

hank you for contacting Ernie Ball Music Man.

The Axis is actually available in 25 finishes. The Translucent Gold finish has pretty much always been the most well-known, so some dealers only picture that color.

Please click here to find out more: http://www.ernieball.com/mmonline/build/build_axis.php

When Ed left, Ernie Ball opened up a NEW factory and DOUBLED their output of the Axis/Eddie line of guitars, that's how huge demand was. It's popularity and reputation remains incredibly strong to this day, as does the price. Notice that the price is still huge, in spite of Eddie not endorsing the guitar? They charge it because they CAN, because everyone knows it's a bomb*ss guitar.

Don't give up. I called Ernie Ball back in 1997, and asked them where to go. They told me exactly where to go, which was Berkley, MI. They had 2 Axis standards, and a used Wolfgang.

Walked out with a flame/quilt mix EBMM. If you go to their forums, you will undoubtedly find a handful of psychos who will help you track one down. There are folks there with 8 friggin' Ernie Balls. It's scary. The techs post there, and everything. It's a very, very respectful board, with members who LIVE to help each other. I'd invest the time, if it's that important to you.

All I had when I was buying my Ball was a phone and some ambition. Luckily, it's hard to go wrong with high-quality product!

I have posted on the EB forums a few times and it is a great place. I think a couple of the members on the site own music stores and could order one for you. Ebay also may be another place to look.

I've tried eBay, and aside from the fact that they rarely show up there, I don't possess the cajones to go "buyer beware" on something of that dollar value.

I'm actually looking to save a couple of hundred by going used, but excellent condition. Nothing mint, but no hacks/ through the paint damage, either.

I didn't think EBMM opened a second factory just for making guitars to meet demand. I know they recently opened a 2nd factory in Indio that deals exclusively w/ their strings and accessories however.

Thanks for the Nazi reference, Filthy... I don't go a day where I fail to hear something regarding Nazis, Hitler, etc... I heard a comedian talk about it one time and it's pretty much true...

I don't know where you're located, but New Jersey Guitar and Bass Center, in Edison NJ, usually has some, they ship worldwide and give a cash discount. I just bought a Music Man Petrucci from them. Nice guys. Good luck.
