This is quickly moving up the ranks of my favorite Van Halen songs, too bad this was left off of the VH III album, which in all honesty I actually like a lot. From Afar, Without You, Fire in the Hole are three of the best Van Halen songs that Eddie and whoever was singing ever wrote for the band. These songs are better than 90 percent of OU812 or Diver Down....I just thought I would see if there were any other linkers that shared my opinion of the song...I'm really glad that I finally found this song online and realized that some of Van Halen's best material is live/unreleased....

From Afar, Without You, and Fire in the Hole some of the best things they've ever written / released?

Yeah I do Remeber that song ... Thats why i Love you is a real Catchy Song most likely would have had better response from Cherone Era Than "Without You" just because it was a poppy Tune.... And yes i agree that VH III was underrated even though i never listen to it now.... that album is still better than any of the Other S**T thats out thier nowadays,

Let's not take it TOO far there, bro...

BUT, it still BAFFLES me why TWILY was replaced by the gawd-awful Josephina. I can appreciate the sentiment of Josephina but it's the most disjointed tune, musically, that Ed's ever written. I'll never understand that choice...

Thank you to Sucka, thank you to Six String. I'll be listening to it for the first time within then next minute.

PS Between my Sirius and local stations I've heard about 5 VH tunes randomly today. Now I get to listen to a VH song I've never heard before. Things are well.

Sounds like a good day to me, bro.

I also like this tune, but it's not making it in my top 10, or even 20 for that matter. I'm actually one of the few that like Josephina around here, and actually took the time to learn it on guitar. I think they should have added TWILY, and dropped How Many Say I, or From Afar.

I dunno...this tune always had an "unfinished" vibe for me. There are weird open spaces that should have lyrics, and really not much of a melody to it. As a result, one can see why it was left in the can.

Just heard the tune for the first time (thanks Sucka & Six String), and I wasn't all that impressed. Like chefcraig said, it does have that unfinished vibe to with, with so much open space. But it was definitely better than How Many Say I , or the instrumentals off III. It is always nice to hear some VH that I'd never heard before.

There were a few stinkers on III, but "From Afar" and "Year To The Day" are a few really good VH songs. I would've liked to have seen Gary do them live with Sammy.
