I wouldn't be AT ALL surprised if the delay was based on:::
1. They can't find any reasonable financial backing to release/market this record. No one wants to take the risk maybe.
2. They are waiting till COVID omicron is over, and they will be in a much better music industry environment to tie everything together business wise. Money, the release, and the touring.
3. They just want to sell the songs to a publisher for SYNC placement deals. A lot of writers are going this route now.
(Also... I don't know WHO paid for the recording sessions which would answer a lot of questions here)

#2 above is the one scenario that would make sense and is in line with why Nuno said that Extreme sat on the album initially, as they finished it right when the Covid pandemic kicked into full swing and live shows/touring ground to a halt. However, if that is the case then Nuno's response now still does not make much sense to me. It appears he is putting a band together with whom he can tour and play live, as he says he has an album already finished/recorded for this new band.
I believe the new Extreme album was recorded at Nuno's home studio and he produced it himself, so I don't think they paid anyone for those sessions.
My gut tells me there is some type of falling out within the band. At one of the web music news sites reporting Nuno's announcement, there was a comment by someone that on the same day Nuno announced this, Gary Cherone had changed his avatar on his twitter page that day to a flying pig...........possibly meaning that Nuno releasing this record as his own or under a different band name will happen "when pigs fly". I don't know if Gary actually did that or not, as his Twitter avatar today looks like a cartoon version of Groucho Marx.
I'm just disappointed as I have been waiting for a new Extreme album for what seems like forever. The release of this album has felt like another "Chinese Democracy" or waiting for Tool to release a new record.

The biggest mistake Nuno made in that Instagram post was not giving any update on Extreme and the new album. Instead there was absolutely no mention of it at all. So that post was so odd. At least acknowledging Extreme and the new album would have stirred up more hype for his solo stuff. Instead it got fans like us wondering if Extreme is finished as a band and if we will ever hear that new album. IMO whoever handled that Instagram post if it was Nuno or his manager made a big mistake. If Extreme is still an active band and obviously has a new album you don't ignore that.

So there may be a rift or falling out in the band and it might all boil down to money. They are scheduled to perform in May so it will be interesting to see if that date holds up. Like any other band yes it all boils down to money and Extreme is no different. They make it all seem so effortless when they perform live they are that talented. So I wonder if the new album and the record deal created the rift if there even is one. Right now it's only speculation because Nuno's Instagram post made no mention of Extreme and the new album and made it seem like he forming a new band (looking for singer, drummer, bassist).

You self recorded it in one of band member's home studio.
Release the fucking thing on your own website and iTunes. Who's buying it outside of die hard Extreme fans? No one.
The amount of people that will only buy it on CD or LP has to be almost negligible. Release the damn thing digitally and move on with your day.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

I can't buy the whole "we're waiting for Covid to be over" bit. If I was a professional musician I would have released an album a few months into the pandemic because by the time I could hit the road, fans would already be familiar with the songs. I understand there's a whole business side to this I'm not taking into consideration, but wouldn't it be cool to hit the road in support of your new album and your fanbase already knows the songs inside and out?

I agree. They should just release it but there is a business side of things we are not considering. That is why I think there may be a rift in the band over this album. I don't buy covid as an excuse because Nuno is so willing and excited to put out his solo stuff and the pandemic is still going on.
They definitely can drop it digitally and release CD's and Vinyl at a later time. Will they? that is up to them. I do hope they drop this album sometime in 2022. It may be the last Extreme album.
Nuno doing his solo stuff wouldn't bother me so much if they just dropped this new Extreme album. They have only promised it to the fans for like 14 years now and we know it's done and ready for release. C'mon Nuno.

Yeah they likely self recorded it because I remember when Eddie passed, Nuno made a comment he was recording some solos for Extreme Democracy and Eddie showed up. Talked about how everybody was going to do a tour. So likely Nuno was making tracks and sending them over to somebody who had the masters. It doesn't take hundreds of thousands of dollars to record unlike what Sammy said.
Who knows what is going on. It surely wouldn't hurt to release a few samples just so we can hear it. Over the past years I have defended the guys saying its on them but if Nuno is working on solo stuff, what the hell? By the time he is done with that, he will want to scrap the album becuase he has new ideas.
