Before Porno broke big I saw Extreme at a small venue in Akron with ANC opening. Alice was a bit different band for me at that time so I walked around and saw Paul watching from a side door. For some reason nobody was hovering around him so I did. Maybe because he had shorter hair and is non-descript. Anyway we talked for about 15 minutes and I did have a converstaion about Francis with him. My friends and I thought he could have been a play on Spanky from the Little Rascals. You know with the song "He Man Woman Hater" being the club the Rascals had. To this day I can't remember what he said. I was a bit drunk.

That said he was very cool. Afterwards we waited around and got backstage. Everybody was with Nuno and Gary. He saw me and waved me over. Talked some more. I was even drunker so can't recall what we talked about

Cool story thanks for sharing. I can definitely see the resemblance between the Pornograffitti character Francis and Spanky from The Little Rascals. Interesting about He-Man Woman Hater never knew that. I always thought it was about those bouncer types at strip clubs but Extreme's lyrics always are clever. Love that song.

My first exposure to Extreme was More than words. It was a good tune that was slaughtered by MASSIVE overplay when I was in school - so at first, they were good - then I hated them. But, I had a roommate who loved them and bought III Sides and forced me to listen - it was a fantastic CD that corrected my preconceived notions of what they were as a band (VH wannabe that played sappy shit). I then went to discover their back catalogue and became the fan that I am today.

III Sides and Saudades De Rock are my favorite albums. Sonically, S.R.R and Waiting for the Punchline are incredible for production.

Without question, I'll buy the new album when it drops - but damn, they REALLY know how to overpromise and underdeliver on timelines....

I actually saw them live once as well; they opened for DLR once in Ontario - it was a good show, but the venue was EMPTY (Canada's Wonderland - maybe 250 people there).

Saudades de Rock is a great album, I think it's their best.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I need to go dig that out of one of my cd towers in the spare bedroom, haven't listened to it in years. They have a couple that are better, but pornograffiti is the most fun to listen to

That was a rare show. Looks like DLR only played 1 date in Canada for that 1991 Tour before the rest got canceled per Setlist FM

I'm confused with him sayimg there were only 250 people. Pretty sure it was a near sellout. Now the next tour (at the same venue) was empty. That's when i knew it was over for dlr.

I think DLR originally went out with just Cinderella, and then due to the concert climate at the time, cancelled those dates, and then came back later in the year as a triple bill with Cinderella and Extreme, and then ended up cancelling those too.

That was a bad year for tours all around. Whitney Houston and AC/DC were playing to more than half empty arenas, and decently popular acts like Sting and DLR cancelled tours.

    Thumbs up

I became an Extreme fan the day after VH announced Gary Cherone was their new singer. I went to a record store and bought every Extreme album! I was very impressed with Extreme, much more than VH 3. hehe! Although VH 3 has a few songs I really like, like Dirty Water Dog.

Weird...I wonder why? I know the economy shit the bed that year, so maybe that contributed.

Yeah, that show sold pretty well. It was actually funny how the Toronto shows perfectly mirrored Dave's career.

First tour - maple leaf gardens- sold out. Probably about 15 k.

Second tour with Poison opening at Kingswood - smaller venue but - sold out. probably about 11 or 12 k or so. Party atmosphere.

Third tour with Cinderella and Extreme. Cinderella treated as almost a headliner. Pretty full but the lawns not as full. Probably about 10 k. Fun show but didn't feel as exciting to see Dave.

Fourth tour with an opening band i had never heard of (No Avail i believe was the name). Crowd less than half the size of the prior tour. Show felt like a funeral.

Oh I forgot to mention this from my meeting with Paul on Porno.

Earlier that day, Nuno had a guitar clinic which I attended. He uttered one of my favorite phrases on guitar playing which I have copied numerous times. Somebody asked him about Vernon Reid and he said "the guy plays in the key of B Quiet"

I got to meet him afterwards, took a picture, etc. Was really cool however post show he was just interested in the ladies. Don't blame him.

I know I said this before but their 25th anniversary they played a free show in Buffalo. The morning after I was at the Starbucks downstairs and Pat Badger came down and ordered after us. We talked all the way until our orders were ready. Very nice guy.
