I agree about Nuno but with Eddie it was 1 album. The potential was there with Without You, Fire In The Hole, A Year To The Day, etc. It's hard to tell by one album so we will never know as they scrapped the followup to VH3 and won't release any finished demos. I think if they continued on and wrote together they would have been fine but obviously Van Halen would have become more Extreme like lyrically. It's even there to see on Van Halen 3. That is what Gary does and it works quite well with Nuno and with Ed it worked well enough for one album. Which is why the label screamed they didn't hear a hit when working on the followup album to VH3 because basically Van Halen was becoming more Extreme like lyrically and the label wanted songs about girls, partying, relationships and love. Instead of Gary's creative stuff lyrically with any other label they would have been fine but Warner Bros just wanted to sabotage the short tenure with Gary as they wanted DLR back thinking $$$ signs. I really do hate Warner for playing a huge role in ending the 3rd incarnation of Van Halen prematurely.

I liked the different direction..so would have liked to have heard them as well. I liked about half that record.
As far as extreme, I'd just assume hear nuno solo at this point

I would take demos of Nuno farting at this point.

It makes sense though to get the Extreme record out first by the end of this year since it has been shelved for so long. Tour a little for it. Than put the solo record out in 2023 and tour for it a little and for Gary another Hurtsmile record. Than Extreme does another summer leg for their new album in 2023. That's how I would do it.

Than the fans would stop bitching about new music.

My only gripe about VH3 is Gary sounded too much like Sammy, instead of sounding like Gray. If we got vox like Porno era Extreme, I would have been all over that album

Gary sounds like Sammy even on some of the Extreme albums. They just have similar singing voices at times depending on the notes they are trying to reach. Gary has a broader range though because he can do the Queen stuff which Sammy wouldn't be able to do as perfectly. Different singing voices but at times they sound indistinguishable from eachother. In other words it's not Gary's fault if he sounds like Sammy at times and it's not Sammy's fault if he sounds like Gary at times. I agree though it sounds extra Sammy like on VH3 but I like it. Still they do sound like eachother at times it's just their natural singing voice and range.

They played the whole song of "Kid Ego" live recently and love this version:

Also would love to hear "He-Man Woman Hater" played in it's entirety instead of always teasing us after "Flight Of The Wounded Bumblebee".

The problem was not only the lyrics. It was the persona. Gary just doesn't have the personality to be in VH, he's too reserved. Next to Eddie, you need a singer with a big ego. With elephant balls. You can't have anyone that's shy. Gary seems even intimidated by Nuno, so next to Ed it was never gonna work. Gary has range, but his voice is much more grating in the highs than Sammy's.

Nonsense. A big ego isn't a requirement to front Van Halen. Let DLR be DLR, Sammy be Sammy, Gary be Gary. The problem with Gary in Van Halen was his tenure was to short to judge any of the music we got. We never got a followup album thanks to Warner being dickheads. So it's hard to tell what could have been with this lineup a few gems on VH3 but the followup album would have been a good indicator if this 3rd incarnation of Halen was ever gonna be truly good. Ed and Gary had chemistry like he and Nuno do. Gary was good in Van Halen. Ultimately though the fans got what they wanted DLR back. Gary was to loyal to Extreme which I think was a big problem when he was in Van Halen having the band just broken up and Nuno went solo. He wanted that band back together so Van Halen for Gary was a side project and he made the mistake of not taking full advantage of being in Van Halen imo. That was the problem imo and why it didn't work. Gary was loyal to Extreme. Van Halen should never be looked at a side project band like Hurtsmile is to him. Oh well he is still the third lead singer of Van Halen, it happened.

He's cocky as hell on stage and completely the opposite of "shy." Offstage he's reserved, but not on the stage or on the albums. What do you mean?

He probably has a case of Gary Cherone derangement syndrome, lol. I agree.

Gary is one of rock's best frontmen, dude always gets shit on because he doesn't try to be hip and cool.

He just goes out there and sings his ass off and loves it.

Obviously were bored as shit come on Extreme get that new album out before the freaking year ends.

The issues with Gary fronting VH had nothing to do with this lack of energy on the stage. He moved around quite fine. I do recall him falling down the stairs during Australia.

Just how he moved was the big crticism and how VH3 sounded which is more on Eddie.

Guy is not reserved on stage. I don't tink one needs to be Sammy or Dave in interviews to be a fit for VH. Especially when you are in your 50's, 60's and 70's Talking about sex and your machismo at 70+ is a bit creepy because you know that 10 blue pills are likely required
