Hey, heres for a cute topic. With the resurgence of hairbands all around us, I have a great topic.
WHICH HAIR BAND HAS THE MOST VAN HALEN INFLUENCE?
I think I would have to say Y&T.
Remember them? They had that one huge hit "Summertime Girls". The lead singer even started out the tune with a big DLR YELP!

I would say just about all of them.
I would say that even the mighty DLR had a little hairband in him when he left VH.

As for the topic, I automatically think of Poison. Even though I grew up right in that era, and I always bought all the rock mags, I read about a lot of the 80's bands a lot more than I actually listened to them.

Hellz yeah!

Their frontman Marc Torien was a DLR
look-a-like!
Heres some fun trivia- the Bulletboys guitar player is now playing guitar for that underage-piece-of-ass-bubble-gum-pop-sensation MANDY MOORE!
i'd play with her over Mar torien anyday!

VH had a huge influence for all of them, and to a degree I think that 1984 created the market for them. The marketability heavy metal/hard rock was largely due to Van Halen.
Even though VH created the market, and developed the style for most of the guitar players, I think that Motley Crue was what many of them were trying to emulate, look-wise.
Y&T were at their best before the hair-band rush of the late 80s-early 90s.

I gotta agree with Mike here...I think every hair band geetar player had to hammer on, but Motley Crue seemed to be the movers and shakers of fashion back in the day...
Especially after Theater of Pain...I think glam exploded again after that record...sadly... Can't stop...addicted to the shindig...

I wonder if Van Halen would be proud knowing they are "responsible" for the mid to late 80's hair bands. I tend to think not! If many of the mid to late 80's bands were influenced by Van Halen, I suggest that their perception of and musical "reproductions" were but only a misguided and misunderstood essence of the greatest band of that era, VanHalen!

On the flip side, all of those bands made VH sound just that much better. They benefitted greatly from having all those bands out there, generating interest in that genre of music. VH wasn't a hair band, but they were close enough in image and sound to really draw people to the shows.
Are they proud of that? I'd imagine so. If they weren't, they'd have changed their image to disassociate with those bands.

A couple bands that come to mind are White Lion and Jackyl. I believe that Jackyl bought Eddie's old amps. The guitar sound is eerily similiar.

The people in this country, well obviously not all, hate our government leaders so much that they would elect RFK. This doesn’t mean that conservatives or liberals just love him now, it means that...
