    Default Dave in St. Louis

I just bought 2 tickets to see the Diamond One on Tuesday August 15 at the Ameristar Casino in St. Louis. The last two times I've bought Dave tickets the shows have been cancelled. I'm obviously hoping for a better result this time out. I'll let you know how it goes.

    Anyone else going?

I don't blame you one bit. I've bought tickets for him at the Pageant a few years ago, and the Casino right before he started his radio thing. Both cancelled. Part of me wanted to skip this time, but I envisioned my 1984 Montreal boot and couldn't stay away. Also it's easier for me because it's only 20 minutes from my house.

    Default Dave in St. Louis...

I bought tickets yesterday. I was at the show last year, only found out about two hours before showtime that it was cancelled. I drove three hours to get there. Ended up getting trashed with my wife and watching a couple local bands on Dave's stage. Met quite a few other dissappointed/drunk fans as well. The whole time I was thinking how cool it would be to see him in such a small venue. I better get my chance this time. If he cancels again, Eddie won't be the only one looking to kick him in the nuts!!

Seriously, it ought to be a great show. I'm really looking forward to it. I saw Dave in Peoria, Illinois at a slightly bigger club in 1993. Best show I've seen of his ever, with or without VH.

    See you there...

Anybody else feel like Charlie Brown after he's gotten the football yanked out from under his foot? I too bought tix to the Pageant and to the Ameristar last time, and, like a numbskull, I've bought them again this time.

    Kinda steep at $45, no?

$45 is too much. I'm a fan and all, but I won't be at this one. It would be one thing if it was more of a major production or a larger venue to pay that kind of cash (because I'd kind of expect to). To each his own. Can you guys that go post on here as far as how good the show was? It'll get you play in the media here (at least not by people who would know any better).

I've gotta be honest, I saw The Atomic Punks at The Bottleneck Blues Bar in early fall last year. I'm not so sure Dave would do as well as those guys anymore. There were people walking out of there with smiles on their faces, shaking their heads saying, "Damn! The real band couldn't do that well."

If you guys want to meet up at the Ameristar at the show or something let me know. I'm either going with my wife or a buddy of mine. As long as Dave is there, we'll be there too.

This show kicked ass! Dave up close and personal. He was in great form, changed costumes a few times, had a way cool "Hell Razors" t-shirt on for a good part of the show, did the baton twirl in close quarters sending the band flying for cover, let the band show their chops more than a few times on all kinds of different grooves, did a few yelps, the high note a few times, and more than a few leg kicks over the head.

Oh, and a heavy dose of classic Van Halen, including Jamie's Cryin', which sounds so good live with a rhythm guitar behind the riffing and soloing. Brian and Toshi? were great playing off each other when Dave let them groove, and the bass player, looked like Todd Jensen who toured years back with Dave, kicked ass too.

I figure Dave woould go on a little late, so I was doubling down at the balck jack table when the show started, but made it in in time for "Doctor" and "Cradle" which were kick ass! Dave was so happy, joked with a lady that he might be the father of her daughter, as he came through town about that time. One gal up front unbuttoned DLR's shirt while he was singing at the front of the stage, and Dave just let her go, later buttoning it back up. Oh, the modesty!

Could Dave front a reunion of the original line-up and hold his own! Last night he was as good as I've seen him live, and when he truly sings, he's still right on time! "Ice Cream Man" showed Dave can truly play some cool finger style guitar in whatever tuning that is, and sing at the same time. His picking was near flawless, while singing it just like the record, well maybe a little faster, as he and the band were jacked up!

Dave came out after the show, signed a few autographs, did a few photos, and when I asked him about the new book, he said he was "still living it"!

I suggest if anyone gets the chance, go see Dave and show support for the man who helped put this band we love on the map, and see a killer show at the same time! A good time was had by all, young and old alike, and we sang the roof off the joint, one song after another! Brothers and sisters, we still have all the guys in our favorite band living and breathing, so keep the faith, and when they do rock again, it will be in a big way!

Inevitable, I know Dave speaks the truth on this one!
John 3:16, Can You Dig It?

People, the 6 wings of the Mighty Van Halen will fly again! Can You Dig It?

You gotta give more than you take! Can You Dig it?

And underneath the arch, it turned into a march,
and there He found a spark to set this fucker off!
Set it off, set it off now children, set if off!

We are down the road! I Can Dig It! Can You?

Dave put on a hell of a show last night. I was out at the bus too when he came out to sign a few autographs and take a few pics. I must have been right next to you cus I heard someone ask about his next book.

Anyway...Started with Hot For Teacher, then California Girls. California Girls sounded better than I thought it would, Brian's guitar made it sound much more guitar driven than keyboards. I can't remember the order from there, but I know he didn't play Gigilo next. He must have figured out what a downer it was to play Girls and Gigilo in a row like he was doing apparently earlier in the tour. I know he played Somebody...Doctor, Runnin...Devil, Beautiful Girls, Ice Cream Man, And the Cradle..., the last two I think were Ain't Talkin..., and Jump. The highlight in my opinion was Unchained. They played it well and the crowd went crazy. Crowd seemed way into it all night. Friend of mine introduced me to his friend who worked at the bar and said it technically sold out (350 tickets or so). I kept hanging out at the front right of the stage, in between getting beers and pissing, lifted my VH 1 sleeve up and showed Dave my VH tatoo and he smiled and acknowledged it, that was definitely a highlight.

That was the most professional I've ever seen Dave. He hardly missed any lyrics. He actually sang pretty much every damn word. He looked healthy, he really looked like he could pull off a reunion tomorrow if Ed wanted it.

Had a blast at the show, Van Halen rules.

The Diamond One still shines I see. Great reviews guys, thanks for posting them. I'm hoping to see in in the next month or so. Last time I saw him was during his Skyscraper tour.

What I wouldn't give to see him in a smaller more intimate setting.
