Roger Waters / Edward Van Halen 1998

    Review
The biggest surprise, and it's pleasant, is the final track ("Lost Boys Calling"). Here, vocalist Roger Waters (Pink Floyd) and guitarist Edward – no "Eddie," please! – Van Halen (from the band of the same name) collaborate with Morricone on a song that savvy radio programmers might pick up and succeed with. Waters's touchingly vulnerable voice sells the lyric (also by Waters), and the guitar solos by Van Halen show – if there was any question – what a fine musician he is.

I bought that CD. Haven't listened to it in forever. Never did see the movie. For quite a while that was the most recently released song with Eddie on it.

Nice work, and thanks for the link. Yet I believe it suffers in comparison to the work that Jeff Beck did in a similiar vein for Waters, and now I can't remember the name of the damned thing.

Thankfully he didn't ask Eddie to sound like David Gilmour, as has been the case with every other guitarist to work with him...

"Lost Boys Calling" is a great song...
“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

The movie is very good as well. In fact, listening to the track as the credits roll, and within the context of the movie, makes for a great listen. I noticed Eddie using the sustainer on the second solo. I often wonder if this was the turn Ed wanted to take with his music. More serious and intellectual I mean. I just love Waters' voice and lyrics....then we wait six years and get "Up for Breakfast?" Ah, where would Ed have taken us? What could have been......

    Ah. THANK YOU.

After all these years, I finally got to hear this damn thing. And wow. Powerful stuff. I see Waters was up to his usual tricks with his echoing, low-cut phantom track. And while he doesn't wring and wrench each note like Beck did on Amused to Death, it's still some of the most tasteful and eloquent stuff I've heard from His Six-Stringed Worship.

And by the way, so long, Syd.
    Edward Van Halen lives forever.
