I did the opposite a few years back and dropped Messa Dual Recifier tubes (which I believe are 6L6's) in my Marshall Super lead 2000 head...Instead of the EL 34's.

The sound was amazing... super crunchy....the bias had already been set run run hotter...so this thing was cranking!!....which explains why they blew up about 45mins later...haha!.

    lesson learnt.

I have a modded marshall JMP that now runs el34 instead of 6L6 power tubes.

the sockets are the same size. I cant fully remember the mod,but it's fairly common there is a step by step in some tube amp book......I;ll try n trck down the info if interested.

It's just a bias issue. Take it to your local tech and he can adjust the negative voltage relatively quick.

Do not do this yourself. Highly qualified tech to help you. EL34's will break up earlier, but won't be as thick and bottomy.

Remember, there are very high voltages inside amplifiers, even after they are unplugged.

    Good luck.
You know the best tone I ever had was with that little bandmaster cranked to 10. Edward Van Halen, 1980, Guitar Player Magazine.
