let's hope he doesn't attack Eddie that much.
"I could call it anything, but the only word I can think of is Brown. It's just a warm sound. Warm, big, majestic" - Eddie Van Halen on his Tone
"Van Halen is definitely a ladies band, and I´ve got the Polaroids to prove it". - David Lee Roth
WOLFGANG did the IMPOSSIBLE, he brought back VAN HALEN, DEAL WITH IT.

I dont think Mike will bash Ed too much. He probably will talk more about the other half and the tour.

Yeah, but you know they'll ask about Eddie and the state of Van Halen.

Drew or Mike better tell them to play Summer Nights...they should also let calls in from the audience because I'll call!

I think it's in Mike's contract not bash the bros. or reveal too much about them or else risk losing his royalties.

There's a fine line between bashing and offering constructive criticism. It's not in Mike's nature to take a shot at Ed, even in cases when it's warranted.
Bobby Cohn: Who's going to be at Waynestock?
Wayne Campbell: Um, uh...Aerosmith & Pearl Jam!
Garth Algar: Ha ha ha ha ho!
Bobby: Who else?
Garth: Uh, me...and...and Wayne...
Wayne: ...and uh...VAN HALEN!!!
Garth: Wow. Van Halen. Who else?
Bobby: Yeah, who else?
Wayne: Uh, an old man fashioning a kayak out of a log?

From the interview thread in The Other Half section. Is this bashing? He's definitely talking now since he's got nothing to lose. I would have told them to stick it when asked to give up the royalties. Probably off topic, but I wonder why Sam didn't intervene on behalf of Mike during these discussions? Would he have gone out without Mikey if he didn't agree to give up his cut?
The Van Halen reunion tour in 2004, where things got so bad that "even Alex started hanging out with us," Hagar says.
Alex, for those who have been avoiding rock 'n' roll for the last three decades, is the drumming half of the Van Halen brothers; his brother, the wondrous guitarist Eddie, is the other half. That tour, according to both Hagar and Anthony, was beyond unbearable.
"The b.s. that was going on," Anthony says. "Aside from when we were on stage, I myself rarely saw the Van Halens. Sammy and I, we'd go out to dinner, but Eddie, nobody ever saw him. He was hiding out a lot."
Such was Van Halen's desire for control over the situation that Anthony was asked to sign over all of his rights to Van Halen royalties prior to the tour. He did so because he felt he had no other choice. And he did it because he couldn't imagine the music he loved so much being played without him.

Mikey was on a Toledo station last week, and Sammy the week before that.
Basically Mike just keeps the convo on The Other Half and what the fans want to hear. He said that while VH is on hiatus, touring is what he wants to do, i.e., PLAY in a band and be on the road.
No bashing of VH or anything like that. Just an upbeat guy who loves to be out there with the fans.Talkin Some New Kicks

After that deal, I think he took a lesser royalty percentage from there on out. We all ripped on Eddie a few days after reading this revelation (me included). But frankly, if I were Ed, I'd want control of the VH name and corporation too. I really don't think Mike lost his real source of income, i.e. royalties. Unless, of course, the other parties gave him upfront money to buy his rights. This does happen from time to time. Rod Stewart sold a portion of his royalties a few years ago for six million dollars. He wanted the money now, rather than waiting. The parties who purchased them know they'll be worth more in the long run. Ed and Al buying out Mike makes perfect sense the more you think about it. After all, it sounds as if he's been a contract player with some ownership rights since the very early eighties. It sounds as if they simply bought out what little bit of ownership he had left. I'm sure Mike got a very pretty penny for selling them. In return, he took less performance money for the reunion tour.
Also, artists soon will be receiving "performance" royalties. In other words, Mike will receive money for "performing" everytime you hear a VH song on the radio, satelite, in the elevator, etc. This in on top of the writing royalty he already receives. If, that is, he still has writing royalties. This is a very recent development in the music business, and I believe is a result of several legal developments which began in the late nineties. It essentially means musicians who never made anything from performing on a record will now get some payment everytime Michael Jackson's "Beat It" is heard on the radio. Guess who gets more money in his annual royalty check?Last edited by chain; 07.06.06 at 07:06 AM.

well the interview was nothing new...sam and mike are great friends, Ed has his demons, went over all the dave stuff from 96...he did say that CGTSNM was an old dave song that they had left over which I never knew, I always heard it was a sam song and was recorded for Balance as the backdoor shuffle. Nothing new...it was an ok interview.
drew and Mike did a great interview with Sam back in 97 where they really went into the whole breakup...I have it on tape somewhere..to bad it's not on thier site.

Mike and Sam are just answering the questions they are asked and some people don't like the answers. That's not bashing, that's answering a question.
The bashing come into play here on the links when the babies read the articles and cry because they don't like the answers that make their heros look bad.

I'm not a Sambot. I think I've made it very clear I can't stand him, and YES post VH matters. He's this supposed all-time legendary frontman. I keep hearing who should be in the class of Jagger,...
