Why there will never be a VH reunion with Sam

Imagine this....

Eddie checks himself into the Betty Ford clinic and gets himself straight. He begins seeing Dr. Phil once a week. Dr. Phil explains to him how he's been wrong shutting Sammy out of his life. That he needs to quit being so selfish. That he needs to be "Learning to See" (sorry I couldn't resist) things from Sam's perspective.

Eddie embracing his new found soberiety and enlightenment, calls Alex and they rush to the next stop on "The Other Half" tour.

Ed can't believe all the attractions that Sam has on his tour. He feels like he's back in Cabo kissing the ground. Al wanders off to find Sam and Mike leaving Eddie on his own. The sand, the girls, the mexican food, they all flood Ed's senses. Then he see's it! That sweet nectar that Sam's been hawking all over the country. The Cabo Wabo Tequila.

The rest is history. Or is it the future? Anyway Sam, Al and Mike find Ed an hour later just a little drunk passed out with two chicks he picked up on the Volleyball court.

Two months later Ed's out of Betty Ford again, and on the Doctor Phil show. Dr. Phil explains to Ed that if he's ever going to make a complete recovery he must rid himself of all the bad influences in his life such as Sammy and Mike. He suggests maybe a reunion with that nice Cherone guy from Extreme or even Mr. Roth since he's now cut his hair and looks respectable.

As Dr. Phil announces that he must go to a commercial break, Ed lights a cigarette, takes a deep drag and thinks about maybe doing the next season of "Rockstar". Hey that Brooke Burke doesn't look to bad

All kidding aside, I do wonder how Ed can ever get cleaned up and go on tour again with someone who's whole creedo is about drinking, partying and having a good time. Not trying to criticize Sam's lifestyle, but how can Ed ever fit back into that?

It's a good question and a valid point. Ed obvoiusly has drinking problems and it's got to be nearly impossible to be the way he is and be around people drinking and partying all the time and not take part. However, personally I don't think Ed's drinking is as much alcoholism as it is self-medication that goes too far. That's just my thoughts I have nothing to base it on other than the history and what I've observed over the years.

You do wonder what's got Ed in this pickle. From the outside he appears to have it all. He's even got someone close that he can trust with Al. I guess my question is why would Ed me self medicating? Is it Val? Is it the cancer? Or is he just a plain old fashioned alcoholic?

It could be that, while from the outside he appears to have the ideal life (money, talent, rock-God status and all that), it also must be very taxing on him as well. The man has a lot of demands on him. He had a wife, nagging him for years. He has a child to raise. Now, in must suburban households, that's enough to drive some people to drink. Now you add in the extraordinary demands of a nation full of Van Halen fanatics, whom all seem to know exactly what's best for him, but in truth are all just trying to satisfy their selfish desire for more music. I'm just as guilty. I would love to hear something new from the man. But you add all that up, plus the cancer, the hip replacement surgery, the years of abuse to his body from touring, drinking, smoking, and what not. He's tired. Simple as that. Reclusive as he may be, he's certainly not oblivious to the daily onslaught from the fans, that are all judging him, right now. In the end, Edward will do what he deems best for him. Now we will just have to accept that his idea of what that is may not jive with our own. I mean, from his point of view, why should he do what we all want him to do, and reconcile with either Sam or Dave? He's not struggling financially. He doesn't need to be in the spotlight, like some do. So why should he? We have our reasons for wanting him to. He probably has a lot of reasons not to, as well.

Exactly. Most of us have one boss or two, telling us what to do, everyday. I have an entire Chain Of Command that pisses me off, on a daily basis. I wish I could quit sometimes, and I can't. Besides, it's hard to hitch-hike home from Iraq. Anyway, imagine if you have hundreds of thousands of people all trying to tell you what to do.

Hey thanks. I'm hanging in there. Only about three months left, until I'm home. The most frustrating part of this deployment, which is my second, is that I am missing Sammy's tour. Last deployment, I missed the reunion tour, by being over here. Ain't that about a bitch?

Just out of curiosity, what do you find so bothersome about Sam? Not trying to start shit, just a question. He seems alright, to me. Besides, how do you know what he's like, off camera? How do any of us know, what any of these people are like, off camera? All we have to go off of is the mudslinging that has gone on in the media. Just a thought.
