Ed, Al and Mike are the only membes of Van Halen right now. They're working
on music.

Is "Puff Braddy" hinting at something with that smilie?
He'd better be.
Because there's no reason to "smile," otherwise...

I'm starting to gain some of my optimism that was lost last week. I think maybe the 3 of them are writing music for DLR to sing to later after the legalities are worked out ?
Possible..........

I like the idea from 79th and Sunset. Maybe what Dave said is true. He hasn't been in contact since July. That may be okay if the band is working hard on the music and then have Dave put in his magical lyrics. That doesn't seem to far-fetched to me. Of coarse, I'm being very optimistic. Someone should ask Brad about the similie. That's usually not his style.

[Conspiracy Theory Mode]
"Ed, Al and Mike are the only membes of Van Halen right now"
Isn't that a certain former frontman's signature VH song?

Didn't Dave say "We've HARDLY been in touch since July?" or something. Not "NOT been in touch since July"...
But it did cross my mind when Right Now was mentioned actually. Although we all know that Sam's been recording and touring on his own a lot hasn't he?

Yup, here we go "Since then I haven't been up in the studio, we haven't really been in touch and we haven't made any music"
So there you go. They HAVE been in touch, just not... really.

Consider this...
4 out of 5 dentists who chew gum...wait. Wrong topic.
What Brad said may "technically" be true. Perhaps it all fits together like this.
1. Dave and the guys have HARDLY had any contact w/each other since July. Translation - there has been SOME, but nothing on a regular basis. Why? Maybe the Tracii Guns thread has something to do with it.
2. Ed and Dave "separate / cool things down" while Ed indeed begins treatment for something that is more serious than originally thought. This would explain Dave's restless letter, but no venom in it.
3. Dave and the band are ALL fully aware that Dave is NOT a member...yet. There is some ink drying on some attorney's desk, but the idea and consideration is there. Perhaps if this tour is going to be billed as "VH with DLR", for legal reasons beyond our comprehension, Dave CAN'T join the band officially. He CAN tour with them though. This gives both parties an "out" if things don't work out.
4. Ed, Al and Mike are indeed writing music that will soon be shipped out to DLR's pad for "lyrical consideration". Once the cancer treatment is over and Ed's health is on the mend, the contact between Dave and VH will begin again and another 8 killer tunes recorded for an 11 song masterpiece.
Pure speculation, but I'm just reading between the lines with a lot of this."Once the final BAN has been completed I will ban myself." -OLO, March 21, 2002

I think I'm reading between the same lines as you. That's the best explanation I can come up with, though it's obviously based partially on wishful thinking......well obviously the cancer part isn't wishful.
But to be honest, whatever happens won't surprise me at this stage. Maybe Brad is the new singer Delusions of eloquence

Cabo Kid, this is what I have been thinking lately. It does seem to make sense. But the whole cancer thing has reared its ugly head again. I really hope that Ed is okay.
Dave is optimistic for the future, that is good enough for me. Until someone in the Roth or VH camp officially denies a reunion, I will hold out hope.

Brad doesn't know anything for certain, and the stuff he's unsure about, he keeps to himself because he doesn't want to spread anything that might not me true.
So Brad says nothing, and everyone rags on Brad to spill. Now, when he does say something, he is called a liar!
Ususally, a person has to choose between what is honest and what is popular. Would you rather he misled you and told you what you wanted to hear, if he didn't know it was true any more than you did?
I wish everyone would leave him the fuck alone.

Possible..........

I don't like this possibility at all. I know that MWM and CGTSNM were written previous to Dave hearing them, and then Dave added lyrics, but generally speaking I think the songs would be WAY better if DLR is in the room contributing to them as the ideas develop.
In my opinion, if the band is continuing to write, and Dave is just across town and not invited to these sessions, that's a pretty big statement as to how well they aren't getting along.

Ok, let me tell ya'll what I think. Try to follow along the best ya' can. With the information we have, it's hard to really have any kind of clue as to what's going on. It's been 18 months since VH has said anything dealing with their new record. Right before Gary left, they said they already had many songs written, I think even recorded. Dave said that as of last July they had 3 songs done. That means for the last 9 months they have been without a singer. We all know there may have been some health problems, and maybe some legal issues to deal with, but 9 months is a long time. The only thing I can come up with is that VH is preparing the music for Dave. The only thing about this is, when Dave made his statement last week, he made it sound like he was there working with VH while the music was being written and as the lyrics were put together. Where as now, if VH is putting the music together for Dave, it's kind of like Dave saying, "Ok VH, give me some new material, I don't care what it is, but as soon as you get it done I'll throw some lyrics on top of it." You'd think Dave would want some say in where the actual music will go. VH may be taking this time to put together a bunch of new stuff, but what if when Dave finally hears it, he wants to go a different direction? So if what Dave, VH, and Brad have told us is true, then I really don't think that there will be a new album any time soon.

When Deep Purple recorded the appropriately titled "The Battle Rages On" in 1993, Blackmore and GIllan basically didn't even meet. The guitar parts were recorded in one studio and the vocals in another - probably not even the same country.
It's pretty much the worst album they ever made, and Blackmore walked out on the tour just before the Japanese dates and Satriani had to fill in with a week's notice to learn the set.
In other words I agree with Glenn
