I would imagine this will impact Sammy...

    From the Associated Press

Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Gary Rossington will be sidelined for a while as he recovers from open heart surgery. Rossington's cardiologist says he came in for a routine screening and the doctor found severe coronary artery disease. Rossington had a quintuple bypass. He's expected to take two to three months to recover. They will reschedule all tour dates that were confirmed through May 25 for later in the year.

Wonder if he'll go ahead and tour alone or go along with another "Moldy Oldy" package tour with such winners as REO Speedwagon, Styx, and other mullet bands?

    Update...

Launch reports that plans for Skynyrd/Hager tour unaffected.

I don't know. If I'm Rossington, I would have to ask myself if being back on the road right after heart surgury is the best thing.

Hey, that wouldn't be that bad of an idea you know. Because REO and STYX are suppose to tour with Journey this summer. Journey+Sammy(MA)= "PLANET US"

You take that into factor, then it isn't such a bad idea is it

This won't effect Sammy. He can do what he wants. He has enough of a fan base to do this own thing.

Anything but carry Roth on his back for another summer would be cool for Hagar fans.

I went last summer to see Dave not Sammy, it works both ways. I would never had gone to a SH show if he wasn't playing with Dave.

Just be fair to each of them.

DLR joining Hagar allowed them to play sheds but Hagar does 30+ city tours every summer in places that seat 5,000. He does this most of the time with a single bill show. Dave hasn't put together a sustained tour in years with crowds of that size. Hell, DLR played a tractor pull or something after the Sam/Dave show in front of 300 people according to reports here. I don't get other people's realities.

Sam and Dave are both irrelevant as solo artists. One is playing with Skynard, the other one Casinos. Sam's last album was totally ignored and forced him to make appearances on games shows with ALF and Jim J Bullcock. There is no way that Sam could pull 5,000 on his own, at least not in the North East.I think his last show in Boston was at the Avalon Club. Sam is more known for booze and bozo-wear than for music and the only press Dave gets is questioning whether or not he's gay. Neither one is a classic artist on their own and the back catalogs are not passed from generation to generation. Kids today are not going into to school with a copy of VOA or Skycraper on disc. VH was the top of the mountain for both of them and its been downhill since. Do you think anyone outside of this board can name one tune from the last couple of solo albums from Sam or Dave?

WTF. What makes a someone relevant, MTV, 15,000 12 yo girls going to your show. Bell bottomed jean wearing college white boys screaming about bitches and hoes with their ass hanging out of their britches.

Hagar's last solo disc was his best solo effort in 20 years. Many great performers in all kinds of music from jazz to classical would love to have the crowds someone like Hagar pulls every year. Don't believe the hype man. Just because an artist isn't the flava of the day doesn't make them no longer relevant just not a part of current pop culture.

Let's face it there are less than 5 solo 60's 70's 80's popular music acts that can do arena tours (I pulled 5 out of the air but try and name more). Maybe 10 or 20 that can play the 3,000-5,000 seat venues year in and out. Then you have the bar tours which is full of people you could call nostalgia acts and not relevant because they produce nothing new they just sing songs that are 20 years old (our good friend DLR excluded here because he does have the BBQ stuff .)

Lynyrd Skynyrd are the poster boys for irrelevance. But, Sammy and Dave both have something left in the tank.

Sammy's infomercial song Mas Tequila was pretty damn cool. I loved the topless babes in the video too.

Dave's DLR Band album totally rocked out. Great straight ahead rock and roll. He still has that good times fun vibe that permeated all of the original VH music.

For the most part, I hated Sammy in Van Halen. It watered down the bands talent. BUT, I still believe the guy could do a hell of a lot better than touring with Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Sorry Dude but this statement reeks of stupidity.Of course alot of people outside this board unless they are a fan of Sammy or Dave would not know a tune off there last couple Cd's.Do you know a tune off the Dixie Chicks latest Cd???I sure wouldn't because I don't listen to there music.Do you think that someone that listens to only country music only would know a tune off a Backstreet Boys CD??? If your just a casual listener of a certain type of music you probably wouldn't know a tune on a CD of music that your not into.
