Super Group Project
I think that there is little interest left with any of the guys regarding Van Halen. I really think that a super group with Ed and 3 other guys with whom there is equal footing for the project is really the only other option. The only thing holding this up that I can see is Ed`s drinking. I think that if he got sober then he would have to deal with all of the shit he has contributed to the situation (not withstanding all of the shit that the others have thrown in to make matters worse). After that perhaps a permenant reunion ala Aerosmith might take place but until the substance is done I see no chance of any playing.
The drinking is making him very obsolete in the industry. Things have really changed since the 80`s in the music business and no one wants to sink a bunch of money into a project if one of the principal members is drunk and may not produce or even survive the project. He can still play and chew em up but no one wants to touch the Van Halen gig because of all of the drama. Chris Cornell was offered the gig but declined because he saw no future in it.
If Ed cleaned up and spent a year sober. There would be people beating down his door to cook something up with him. The guy is a mess and no one wants to be a part of anything that may never see the light of day.
Just imagine:
Bass Tony Levin\Victor Wooten\Jeff Berlin\Stu Hamm\Billy Sheehan
Doug Pinnick
Drums Alex Van halen\Pat Torphey\Rod Morgenstein\Jerry Gaskill
Vox Myles Kennedy\Eric Martin\James LaBrie\ or anyone you like
While Van halen is probably done it would be really cool to hear and see any combination of these guys in a small venue like HOB or the Troubador or even the Filmore.
Hope this is read by the right people

Ed and Al should get Doug Pinnick to sing AND play bass. He could do both Sammy and Dave era stuff no problem. They could call it VHB for Van Halen Brothers....Just a thought.

" I really think that a super group with Ed and 3 other guys with whom there is equal footing for the project is really the only other option."
The way I see it, this is the problem. As much as people want to blame Ed's alcohol abuse. Which we don't see on a daily basis. I blame his inability to work with others on equal footing. Drunk or sober Ed wants to be in control.Sometimes you feel like a nut...Sometimes you feel like a screw!

I was talking to a peavey R/D guy a number of years ago right around the time Cornell`s solo career was in a stall. It was after Gary if I remember right. I guess I should have added that it was just talk and he may have been talking out of his ass but it seemed plausable in light of the fact that Coverdale was coming up in conversation a fair bit. No real hard evidence to offer but it I also read it here as well. I think.

I forgot to say Happy 87th birthday to David Suzuki. No Canadian has done more to protect the environment than him.
