Are You "Chronically Unemployable" More or Less
Has anyone had a life of going from job to job for years and have a history of getting fired repeatedly. Even a week after you start the job. Would love to hear stories from people who just can't keep a job.

Well I should probably clarify. I meant people who don't care about getting fired due to having other things going on in their life that will ultimately pay the bills once things get going.

Lowlife,
But was it because they truly couldn't keep the job due to not being able to do it or because they knew that you would be paying for their life, so they didn't feel the need to bust their ass at the job.

Quite the Opposite
I've had the same job for 15 years, and it's really been my only real, adult job. It's a good job, provides for my family, and I don't mind it, but....
The reason I mention this is because I wonder how people do it...I wonder how you go from job to job. I'm not judging at all...I truly wonder what it would be like to go for another job. Am I a puss or just overly responsible? Or am I one of the lucky ones who ought to thank my lucky stars that I found something that I reasonably enjoy (it's still work afterall) and have had success doing? The Barn Burned Down, Now I can See the Moon

I've had 4 different jobs within the last 6 years. Never been fired.
My last job I was retrenched and given a sweet payout. One of my former work mates believed the reason why I was let go was because I spent alot of time on this website.Bobby Cohn: Who's going to be at Waynestock?
Wayne Campbell: Um, uh...Aerosmith & Pearl Jam!
Garth Algar: Ha ha ha ha ho!
Bobby: Who else?
Garth: Uh, me...and...and Wayne...
Wayne: ...and uh...VAN HALEN!!!
Garth: Wow. Van Halen. Who else?
Bobby: Yeah, who else?
Wayne: Uh, an old man fashioning a kayak out of a log?

I've been at my current job 6 yrs, one year at the job right before this and 8 yrs at the job before that. The one year job was due to the company getting in a bad situation financially.
On the other hand, my brother hasn't been able to hold a steady job for years. Having varies personally problems and an attitude that everything is everyone else's fault, they don't last long. It was pretty embarassing for my hubby to get him a job at his trucking company and they were finding him asleep in the back of a trailer, he said because he was working too many hours on his side job painting. It would seem you would want to take care of the day job that pays the bills but not him.

Actually, Brad, that pendulum is starting to swing the other way. I've seen that working more than 5 years or so at a company can hurt your future job prospects - can show a lack of flexibility and desire to get ahead. When I recently changed jobs, I'd just about hit 5 years at my last job, and I was getting looks around why I stayed so long...
A friend of mine had a bitch of a time landing a job, she was at her job for 9 years, was her only employer since college, she started as a direct care worker low on the totem pole and moved up to Director of Ops, great career path, and couldn't get shit. Employers figure you're set in your ways.
2-3 years and out seems to be the norm these days. Baffling, frankly.
