I'm not really sure if this is newsworthy, but in the absence of anything else going on, I saw Gene Simmons on a chat show last night.

He is here in Australia for his 'spoken word' tour which is basically him lecturing an audience on how they can have a life like his if they'll implement his philosophies.

Gene was questioned about whether that's all he would be doing, "Surely you'll be playing some music?" He replied by saying, "Oh yeah I'll be playing some music. I discovered Van Halen back in the 70s and financed their demos. I'll be playing those which no one has heard before."

Gene, how much is enough? You know he was holding those demos masters as an Ace up his sleeve to drop on us if and when they ever hooked up with Dave again. Then, somehow they made their way out, and onto the net, and he has been on a rant about this kind of stuff pretty heavy of late. Music was meant to be shared in the first place, and I think it's cool people can make a living playing it, just like I think it's cool people can play sports or act in movies and make a living at it too.

But add in the big money, and it all goes to a bad place.

The best movies now are the independent movies that operate on a shoestring budget, and if big name actors do appear, they do it for very little compared to what they normally earn.

In baseball, the Angels, probably not the highest payrolled team, make it further than the Yankees and seem more genuine in their happiness after winning the World Series than anytime I've seen in a long time.

Then you have people like Eddie who would go down and help Gene out in a pinch, when Ace would be AWOL, and I still think Ace may have been influenced by what he heard Eddie had played while he was gone, as some of those songs feature some very Eddie-esque phrasing, at least compared to Ace's normal style. Then you have Eddie going down, and laying down one of the most well-known solos of all-time on "Beat It" for Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones, helping that song cross over to many different groups of listeners and for free at that.

There are still some people whose main motivation is not money, too bad Gene is not one of them. His attitude today could never have spawned the cool music he was a part of back in the day. People need to remember where they come from, and how and how and why they get where they are today. His picture is in the enclyclopedia next to the term "milking machine". We should have known he was as fake as that blood he was spitting, when he was singing a song about Cold Gin, and supposedly doesn't even drink. When you can fake that kind of conviction he sang that song with, singing Ace's words as if they were his own, you are headed for a career of deception.

John 3:16, Can You Dig It?

People, the 6 wings of the Mighty Van Halen will fly again! Can You Dig It?

You gotta give more than you take! Can You Dig it?

And underneath the arch, it turned into a march,
and there He found a spark to set this fucker off!
Set it off, set it off now children, set if off!

We are down the road! I Can Dig It! Can You?

Dude, get a grip. If he financed them, he owns them. If he can get a few buck out of them, good for him. It's called an investment, and unless you are a hippie who gives everything away except what you need for basic needs, then you have no room to talk.

These days, Gene is a man who is only motivated by money. Apparantly, making GOOD music is no longer on the itinerary. It must be an ego thing, to stay in the spotlight anyway you can.

Say what you will about Simmons, but the fact remains...

a.) Simmons was the first to identify VH for what it would become.

b.) Put up the money, time, and effort for the unkown group.

c.) Let them out of a "contract" so they could move on to WB.

d.) Probably help shape some of the early VH songs as a producer and/or mentor. I'm sure that Eddie and the guys took his advice a lot easier than from some "suit".

And finally, correct me if I am wrong, we have not heard all of the Simmons/Van Halen sessions. I have never heard the demos Gene did with Ed and Al for future KISS songs such as Christine Sixteen. I do recall Simmons saying on his Website that he wanted to put the demos on the KISS boxset but could not get everyone to sign off in time. I'm guessing that it involved more than just Ed and Al... Maybe another case of Ray Daniels getting greedy.

Check Simmons website once in a while in light of this comment - www.genesimmons.com - by the way, the guy is constantly answering fan mail via the site... Something few rock star do (hint, hint Eddie)

I wasn't aware that anything EVH played for KISS ended up on an album.

Anyone care to say which song has EVH on it?
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -

Gene has said that the band wanted Ace to sing Cold Gin but he wasn`t up for it . Gene has said in many interviews that he`s in it for the cash and the women . Hell I know I`m jealous of the guy , what a life he must live.
You may think I`m being mean but I`m really just being sarcastic

Say what you like about Kiss - Gene Simmons or whoever else is in the "band"......but guess what they are a band and they are making music and they have been around for a long time and they are doing a concert in Australia next year and they are on talk shows and they are in the public eye................where is Eddie and Alex?
No comment needed huh

If Gene owns the music...then its his ....we are lucky to have copies of it before its released.
I bet Eddie has hundreds of hours of music in his studio.........when is he gonna let that out!!!

According to the booklet in the KISS boxset, those KISS demos Gene made with Eddie and Alex weren't included because KISS couldn't get permission to use them.

I think they weren't on there because Gene wants to use them on the NEXT boxset
