Hagar and Andy Johns
What's the story there? I remember hearing that Hagar and Andy Johns didn't get along (hence Ted Templeman being added to the F.U.C.K. album), but does anyone know why? Fill me in. Thanks.

In an interview I remember with Andy Johns, he said that Sammy just didn't seem to take a liking to him and didn't know why or didn't specify. This was back during the 2004 "reunion" tour and he seemed reluctant to go into details, if there is any, thinking it may add fuel to fire.
Ed has stated that Sammy "refused" to work with Andy during the making of F.U.C.K. and only would work with Ted Templeman because, as he put it, "Ted lets him get away with everything."Bobby Cohn: Who's going to be at Waynestock?
Wayne Campbell: Um, uh...Aerosmith & Pearl Jam!
Garth Algar: Ha ha ha ha ho!
Bobby: Who else?
Garth: Uh, me...and...and Wayne...
Wayne: ...and uh...VAN HALEN!!!
Garth: Wow. Van Halen. Who else?
Bobby: Yeah, who else?
Wayne: Uh, an old man fashioning a kayak out of a log?

Also, having worked with several people on recording projects, I can tell you that everyone has a different technique for recording and it an get really unnerving if it doesn't work for your style. Some guys like the live vibe, some like headphones, some don't. Some engineers make you do something 100 times and they use the very last take. It might sound like shit in your mind. Then the mix sounds too tinny or hollow etc. etc......Sam probably knows what he likes and how to get it. At this stage of the game, he just doesn't want to deal with The Andy Johns, or Bob Rock types.

I wonder how much of Sammy's recent major label trouble has had to do with a reluctance to work with a producer.

Considerably less than his genre, age, and lack of numbers, I'd say.

I'm guessing that maybe it has something to do with the shitty lyrics Sammy wrote and continues to write. For example, Andy might have said a little something like this: "Sammy, those lyrics are pretty weak, it took you how long to write those? How about taking one for the team and taking an hour or two to put your creative juices to work? Come on, what do you say? Think about it Sam, Pleasure Dome is a great tune, the music is outstanding, but the lyrics? Ah, you get my point. Now forget about that tequila recipe and write some lyrics worthy of the music. What do you say?" Sammy's reply: "Fuck you, Andy. I'm the singer, not you! Piss off, mother fucker. Edward, I want another producer!

Achievements:
Sammy's lyrics are childish and stupid, though.
ASHES TO ASHES...DUST TO DUST...IF THE WOMEN DON'T GET YA, THE WHISKEY MUST!!...
"I used to play the blues alone in all the local joints," he explained. 'The only thing that I can really play on guitar to this day is the blues. I heard Doc Watson and his son playing 15 years ago, and from there I got into Leadbelly and John Lee Hooker."--DLR
If I had one biscuit, and sam hagar hadn't eaten nothin' in a month, I'd break it in two and eat both pieces.--Loons, celebrating Van Halen with David Lee Roth ONLY !!!

Ok, Bad. I retract my previous post. Sammy's lyrics are mature, deep, and probably take days, weeks, even months to write. I'm not offended being called stupid. In fact, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not the brightest cat on the planet.
