While asking I would also like to wish everyone a great summer!
Well to the question, I'm about to change the equipment in my guitar..and i wonder which pickups eddie use in his PEavey Wolfgang and in the 5150 Kramer
If you know give me any relevant info about it.. like guitar-strap/strings/humbucks

The Wolfgang has its own model of pickup, specifically for that guitar, and the Kramer was purported to have a Seymour Duncan Custom Custom.

Yeah the wolfgang had its own custom set of pickups designed just for the wolfgang and the 5150 is believed to have a Seymour Duncan of some kind. I believe that the 59 model is the closest to the pickup he had in the kramer 5150 but theres all kinds of speculation

Go here and do a search for Van Halen, Custom Custom, or their '78 pickup (formerly called the EVH).

You can get Custom Custom's on Ebay for $75 including shipping. The EVH '78 is a Custom Shop pickup, and they're like $160.

Actually you can get a bucker new for 75.95. Free shipping at Wymore Guitars (John's a great guy!):
https://www.shop.wymoreguitars.com/d...&categoryId=20
Should be able to score a pickup at 1/3 to 1/2 off list on ebay if your patient. HighOrder winds for 55-60 shipped last time I checked. If you decide on a CC, grab an A3 & A8 from John so you can fine tune the sound if need be.
I've found A3 mags are great for VH. Put one in a hybrid I made and it turned out really well. They have more mids than A5, but aren't as mushy and have more bass than A2. A8's are good for boosting lower mids and leaving the bass and highs pretty much the same.

I didn't even bother to mention the Hybrid since I didn't want to scare him or turn him off due to what can sometimes be perceived as "complication". Of course, there isn't anything complicated about it, since the guy that sells these things by the dozen does it legally, right out of Duncan's forums. And Duncan loves it.
An Alnico 2 or Alnico 3 Hybrid is absolutely the way to go *if* you're gun-shy about dropping the big bucks on the '78.
If you're looking for alternatives to the '78, and you're thinking about a '59, I'd seriously, SERIOUSLY consider dropping the same amount of cash on a Hybrid.
If you're NOT looking for alternatives to the '78, then just forget this whole individual message.
Lots of options out there. Just find one without any harsh tones (ie. Invader, Distortion, Evolution, etc.)

Ya I think if you want one bucker for anything up to Carnal Knowledge, an A3 hybrid is tough to beat. I think after that, you need more heat.
I have an extra one, but its a double screw and the finishes are different(1 row nickle-1 row bright zinc). Not a big difference, but big enough. I have to plate up a bunch in nickle then I'm gonna sell it. A hybrid might be too much of a pain to for some to make tho. I saw one on ebay for 50 a while back, not a bad deal.
If your not into tinkering or boutiques I think the easiest, and cheapest, route is to score one of these off ebay:
Roth VH-5150: VHPaf
LWAN-OU812: CC
Everything else:Tone Zone(or Air Zone)-Air NortonLast edited by the breadman; 06.20.06 at 04:43 PM.
