They actually played "Slam Dunk!" on ESPN last week when talking about the NBA playoffs. Always good to hear something VH related on mainstream media.

I gotta tell you, everybody that wants a reunion with Roth, I completely understand why.

HOWEVER, there is part of it that just scares the hell out of me. I was pumped for the Sammy reunion, went to 3 shows. Literally spent thousands on it. Would I do the same with Roth, more than likely. But I just don't want to see a trainwreck. This band has enough baggage. I just think between Roth and his lack of true vocal power and MAJOR ego, who the hell knows what state Ed is in, who knows where Al even is, and a more than likely the issue of having a base player other than who we are use to, I think it spells disaster. I think some here think they will be as good as they were in 1984, well hate to wake you guys into reality, but .....

I REALLY hate to say this, but does anybody else out there feel like me? It seems like every issue other than MUSIC gets in the way for these guys.

How many other things will pop up with Roth? You think '04 was bad, just wait.

Please GOD, I hope I'm wrong. However, experience with this band tells me I'm not.

I'm not jabbing anyone here. I don't care if you like Roth, Sammy or Gary, or Ed singing. I want to see the band get back together in some capacity and do WELL, not tear down their reputation even more.

As a die-hard VH fan, I also don't want to be embarrased (sorry to be selfish). I'm kind of tired of that too.

I don't care...I'll be there in the 35th row watching Dave take one to the cup(from Ed, of course). I'll watch Eddie get all gushy and shitfaced. I'll even watch Roth piss off some guy when he pisses "jack" on his wife. I'll watch Ed smoke his brains out and Mikey be the nice guy he is. I'll yawn thru Mike's 10 minute bass solo, and feel refreshed during Al's. I'll occasionally wave to friends in the front row that spent $2,000 on "special packages". (you know, to watch Ed while semi-sober for 6 minutes during soundcheck, then refuse to sign anything because he's "above" all that.) I might even buy a program just to compare it to my Diver Down program that I saved all these years.
Anyways my point is....Van Halen is like our family:
Sometimes you might get tired of Uncle Dave's Stories, sometimes you might get tired of hearing aunt EDna complain about her hip, and yes they are a disfunctional lot, but we still invite them to Christmas Dinner...why? Because they are so damn entertaining!!

Maybe you're right but without a Roth reunion this band is dead to the mainstream - Another Hagar reunion ain't gonna capture the publics imagination & neither is lead singer no. 4. So the band either dies on its arse as it is now or it tries to go out all guns blazin with DLR - if that goes pear shaped is it any worse than the shambles we have now????

After downloading and listening to DLR sing on the Sam/Dave tour, I think he's still got much of what it takes to sing the songs properly.

My big complaint about Dave was during the Diver Down/1984 era when he just... didn't sing any more. He danced, he did the split jump off the riser and his sword swinging routine, but Mike held the songs together vocally.

My memory may be flawed, but that's not always how it was. From Fair Warning on back to the club days, Dave SANG the tunes, more or less in key, without the "I Forgot The Fuckin' Words!" spiel.

I suspect that's why I liked hearing Sam sing Panama and Jump, because Dave never really sang them (not that I heard anyway) live. That's also why I find Sam's attempts to sing Ain't Talkin' Bout' Love sub par, because I've heard Dave actually sing that song.

So when I heard a boot of the Sans Halen tour and heard Dave sing the right words in more or less the right spot in more or less the right key, I knew he had what it took to take Van Halen back to the arenas once more. In fact, I think he has it more now than he did in 1984. I just thought DLR relied more on routines and pre rehearsed lines in that era. It seems like he wanted to prove on the Sans Halen tour that he could still do what he did better than anyone else.

Musically, the weak link right now may just be Edward unless he cleans himself up.

Now, the question of their egos is another thing entirely. From all accounts, DLR and Ed are like poison to one another. There is certainly potential for a train wreck on stage when their egos clash.

All in all, however, it's great to see any member of VH get out there and do SOMETHING. I'm all for DLR being on Leno (it'd be nice to erase the memory of his last appearance with a really great performance this time around) and the Late Late Show.

    Regards,

If the Roth reunion happens, I'll be ready to go to the nearest show. I've never seen VH with Roth live in person so it'll be a long time coming.
