I'll go with FYLT. Great riff, incredible harmonies, killer solo...it's one of the underappreciated tunes off of VH1 (and the band's entire catalog).

Which one of these heavy hitters from the first 2 albums to do you guys prefer? Personally, they're both kick ass songs, but I'm gonna go with Beautiful Girls, based off of SNL's "Schmitt's Gay" beer commercial spoof starring Chris Farley, Adam Sandler, and a pool filled with gay guys. That skit was friggin' hilarious!

FYLT. BG has some silly lyrics, but I still love it. Nothing about FYLT that I hate except the breakdown after Ed's solo. Cool solo, and one of Ed's few songs in the early days that has him overdubbing.

FYLT represents the opitomy of riff rock. Killer. I wish they would go back to it. Not that BG wasnt, just that FYLT is just pure.....and I guess what it really comes down to is, it was first. lol

Decisions, decisions...
They both are great tunes...both rock...one of them had a bad-ass skit containing a couple of pool boys and a pool full of gay men...great vibe and feel to both...did I mention one had a funny skit?

you bastards for making me choose!!!!!! it's so not fair because i love them both. i refuse to choose, because both are the epitomy of van halen. both fun, great riffs, great solos, and great harmonies.
i want some more lame ass comparisons like spanked vs. panama or something. those are always fun to read...

Okay, I waited and waited, still cant decide. I never can, unless its like Laner said, a mismatch.
"Feel Your Love" was always interesting because of the overdubbed solo. Something Ed and the boys did'nt really do with Dave in the band. The song has one of my favorite riffs.
"Beautiful Girls" , the way Dave Kisses at the end, then, the Saturday Night live skit with the Gays by the pool,(Hilarious if you have ever seen it). Dave claims they wrote this song in the back of a station wagon on their way a to beach in California.

Man, this is a tough one.
Gotta go 'FYLT'. I love both tunes but whenever I listen to 'FYLT' it takes me back to when I was 12,13 years old ('84) & playing it all the time for my little cousin, who was like 9 at the time & it was just blowing us away. We would be jumping around Grandma's house, jammin' our air guitars & trying to act like VH. I must say I played one mean air guitar. It was definitely one of my favorites early on. It had/has everything a cool rock song needs, killer riff, killer solo, great vocals & harmonies.
'FYLT' all the way!
