Hey guys.
First post. I was just listening to rock 99 in Salt Lake City. Let me sum up what I just heard, you guys may already know it...
Apparently, Tod Rungren was asked to be the producer of the Van Halen Reunion album/tour. He said it was a couple of years ago and that he was in the same room with ALL of the original members of Van Halen. He said that Roth was told that he WAS the man.
It was cancelled because of Ed's health AND,(yes, there was an AND there) because Ed wasn't entirely convinced of Roth's involvement in the project.
I'm trying to be as precise as I can.
Rock 99 will repeat this news again at 3:00pm MST. That's 5:00pm EST. They stream it LIVE, so go and check it out. Go to www.rock99.com. Up at the top of the page there's an icon that says "Listen, the mike is on." Click on that and you'll hear it.
Let's see how accurate I was!!You can lead a horse to water, but that still won't make him a duck!

So they had Todd saying this or a DJ repeating what he heard? If everyone has been so sworn to secrecy, why would Todd spill the beans? And really, does Todd have what it takes to produce a hard rocking album anymore?

Todd's opening for Hall and Oates these days , so who would be the BEST producer for a VH reunion with Dave, any thoughts?
It's good to be the King or at least know him.

Who is Todd Rungren?
"I could call it anything, but the only word I can think of is Brown. It's just a warm sound. Warm, big, majestic" - Eddie Van Halen on his Tone
"Van Halen is definitely a ladies band, and I´ve got the Polaroids to prove it". - David Lee Roth

From Allmusic.com :
...best-known songs — the Carole King pastiche "I Saw the Light," the ballads "Hello, It's Me" and "Can We Still Be Friends," and the goofy novelty "Bang on the Drum All Day" — suggest that he is a talented pop craftsman, but nothing more than that. On one level, that perception is true since he is undoubtedly a gifted pop songwriter, but at his core Rundgren is a rock & roll maverick. Once he had a taste of success with his 1972 masterwork Something/Anything?, Rundgren chose to abandon stardom and, with it, conventional pop music. He began a course through uncharted musical territory, becoming a pioneer not only in electronic music and prog rock, but in music video, computer software, and Internet music delivery as well. As his career wound into its third decade, Rundgren concentrated on behind-the-scenes innovations, but during the '70s and '80s he maintained a relentless work schedule. He released up to two albums a year either as a solo artist or with his band Utopia, while producing acclaimed, successful records for artists as diverse as Badfinger, Meat Loaf, Grand Funk Railroad, the New York Dolls, and XTC. Given such an extensive catalog, it's not surprising that there's a vast variety of styles within Rundgren's music — which is either rewarding or frustrating, depending on the album. Also, more often than not, the singles from each record do not offer an accurate indication of what the remainder of the album sounds like. Such an approach severely curtailed his mass appeal, but it helped him ...

We all know Dave was the man "then" and we all figured that Ed's health has played a major role in VH, reunion or not, being sidelined. But... what strikes me odd is the comment about "Roth's involvement in the project." What the hell does that mean? It would be hard to imagine Dave not being 110% up to his fucking knees VH if given a TRUE chance back in the band.
