Alright guys and gals...so these reunion rumors have been going on...oh...forever. I know that the general concensus in here is the "Dave or the grave" additude, but suppose ...just suppose it's not working out (or not happening at all). If that is the case, Halen has two realistic choices. 1. hang it up and do movie sound tracks 2. get another singer
Personally, the first choice doesn't enthrall me all that much. There are LOTS of good singers out there.

Ex: Goran Edmond, Mark Boals, Joe Lynn Turner, Jeff Scott Soto, Jorn Lande (who sounds like David Coverdale), and countless others that have awesome vocals.
I realize that getting another singer isn't the most popular choice, but I definately prefer that to the other. I think that if Halen got a really GOOD singer, it would not be a repeat of the Cherone situation.

Man I don't know Alchemy, with all the hype for a DLR reunion, it might be "Dave or the grave" at this point.

I've never liked that "Dave or the grave" sentiment, although I do understand what it means. But it's as much "Van Halen or the grave" for Dave too. VH struggled to sell 600 000 copies of III, but Dave struggled to sell a quarter of that. VH struggled to fill arenas with III and Dave was playing clubs. The shine is off of both parties in alot of ways.

I don't think it's the grave, but VH will never have major success again in my opinion without Dave at the helm. They could certainly survive without him, they've proven that. But once you've set the bar as high as VH has, surviving by making records that struggle to go gold and struggling to sell out arenas looks bad. And perception can kill you in the rock and roll world.

Personally, I'll buy whatever they put out, with any singer (or band in Dave's case), that's just me. But to achieve anything close to the success they've had before would be virtually impossible for VH, or for Dave solo, at this point unless they team up.

    Just my opinion.

I think if this doesn't work out you'll see Ed go do movie scores and I think Dave will some how break into movies or something

Glenn I'd buy the next VH album if they had a monkey doing the vocals!

But I would much prefer having the best scenerio and that is having the one and only Diamond Dave BACK on lead vocals!!!

I'll have to agree with Glenn & Brett. Not too fond of the statement "dave or the grave" either, however, VH has reached their highest status with Dave/Sammy and with any other substitution, they could be in for another Gary incident.

The only way they could bring in a fourth singer and be successful, would be with a very well known name whose also had a very successful solo career (Sammy-kind)- someone everyone knows and loves. Other than that, I beg that they don't even try.

I'd rather have the memory of the last twenty years of great music than go into the next milennium with another Gary incident. IMHO.

Well I feel the same pretty much. They could probably survive without Dave but with another new guy VH's reputation as one of the greatest rock bands of all time might get a little tarnished. When people think of Van Halen at their best they usually think of when Dave was aboard and vice versa. And if this works who knows maybe Eddie can do the scores for movies with Dave as the star!

Personally Wesls, I think with the soap opera that has been going on for years, VH's reputation has already been tarnished. I hate to say it, but in the later half of the 90's, VH will probably be remember more for the Sammy/Dave/Cherone fiasco rather than the music that they put out during that time period. Sad. Personally guys, If the Dave thing doesn't work out, I would love to see a Van Halen + Goran Edmond or Van Halen + Jorn Lande combination. When Dave left back in 85, VH survived by picking up Sammy and venturing off in an entirely new direction. I think that they should consider that option again. Sure, people would be pissed and disappointed, but if Halen put out an awesome album, I guarantee that a lot of those people would not only buy the album, but attend the concerts as well.
