No, I wish to continue this discussion, Grant (I believe that is his name) was the one who took the "?" of the singers face, but he was the one also to re-start the Sam v. Dave "who was more successful debate".

We all know it is Dave that is the one recording with them, and that alone should have been reason enough to take the "?" off are reveal it is Dave, unless otherwise told from the band.

However, Grant has claimed that,"David Lee Roth was the guy who was in the band during their most successful period, and is the person who most people (fans and non-fans) recognize as the lead singer of Van Halen." That being the reason for taking the "?" off, HUH?

I understand that his claim that he does not want to re-start a many years debate, so what was the point of saying this when it can be ever so challenged? To me, just becuase the DLR version has sold more records does not mean they were more successful. Why have they sold more? Maybe because those albums have been out for more years, than the Hagar era records, who knows, but definetly not becuase the DLR version was more successful. Silly statement.

The Hagar version as well know have 4 #1 albums, and a grammy to its credit, which DLR can't claim to have with VH. Come on tell me Hagar can't be given equal footing here? To make that statement undermines the Hagar era and what it brought to the table. Sammy keep the train rolling, and took it to another level, not matter how DLR supporters feel about him, they have to admit, VH with Hagar was just as successful. I won't say more successful that DLR, but he gets equal standing in my book

To me I love both versions, the 3rd, I never and never will buy it. When VH is inducted in the HOF in a few years, that plaque will have Sammy Hagar on it right next to DLR. Most fans, especially in my case recognize both as VH's lead singesr, not one over the other as he claims.

Grant claimes he does not wish to beat a dead horse on this one. Well that is fine and dandy after you have put your two cents in, and gave your opinion, right?

If he was going to take the "?" off and claim it to be DLR, becuase he is recording with them, fine, leave it as that. Don't give a supporting thesis to back the reasoning when you know you will be challenged.

Of course we knew, and he have every right to his opinion. There was no reason to say I don't wish to re-start an arguement, after saying your piece and dropped your first missle. Also don't state your opinion, then runaway from the from those e-mailers by people who object to you, when you started it in the first place.

A Public Apology to David Lee Roth:

    Dear Dave,

I just went to say how sorry I am for buying the Van Hagar albums the week they were released. In my own small way I helped to perpetuate the myth held by certain elements that you aren't the one and only true frontman for Van Halen. In my defence, I would like to say that I was much younger and gullible in those days. I honestly believed that Eddie and the boys could pull it together each time, and after all most of the great rock bands were gone or in decline by the mid 80s. Van Hagar were better than Bon Jovi, Dokken, Poison and maybe even Motley Crue on a good day.

I know that's not really much of an excuse. But I can assure you that they never, ever get played at my house. Oh yeah and I always skip past those songs for CGTSNM and MWM......well sometimes I listen to Humans Being, but it does make me feel guilty so I listen to MWM about 10 times to make up for it. If you're even in the nighbourhood, drop by for a beer - I'll let you use FUCK as a coaster.

I should emphasize however that I was NOT and NEvER HAVE BEEN on the voting committee for the Grammys. To be honest I have no idea what they won....nor do I care.

    Best wishes
    Jonathan

PS I'd also like to apologize to Sammy Hagar for any part I've played in his fuzzy math story telling.

PPS To everyone else, please subtract my Van Hagar albums from any figures you use in further arguments of this kind.

Pretty clever, but I'm sure that DLR takes credit for any success that VH had with Hagar. It would be the same as Bill Clinton taking credit for any accomplishments under the new Bush administration.

Well I heard he was looking for new band members and I wanted to gauge my popularity.

My question is about the Grammy argument that people sometimes use to claim Van "Hagar"'s superiority: What categorie(s) did Van Halen win a Grammy (or Grammies) in? My guess is that it was a category that didn't exist during the David Lee Roth era, so you can't really use that as a weapon as they didn't really have a chance to win a Grammy during the Roth era - heavy metal bands weren't recognized during that time.

You know, if you have problems with Grant's opinions, e-mail HIM, don't post about it on here. The whole Sammy/Dave debate is a tired issue on this board. There are already 500+ topics about that on here, post in those threads.

If Grant wishes to re-visit this tired subject on his site, that's his prerogrative. But these are issues that should be taken up with him about HIS site, not on here.
