i do not understand the thinking of some people who call themselves fans of the band when they have nothing positive to say about the band, genius. eddie has already come out and said he doing fine and that he feels fine. correct me if i'm wrong, but that message was posted at van-halen.com some time ago. he said he was given a clean bill of health. yet everytime someone puts a picture up of him, it's oh he's drunk or oh he looks like shit. why the negative attitude? why keep beating a dead horse? when ed was indeed not feeling well and there was no news from the official web site, i could understand people's cause for concern and say something like, oh man, yeah he doesn't look too good. but why now? what the fuck is the point? i mean c'mon already? just about everyone and their brother saw the recent pic of eddie with adam sandler. ed looked like a million bucks there man, looked like he always has. yet that thread loses it's way in the forum down to the bottom and stuff like this keeps floating around. it's stupid and makes no sense. i don't have a problem with people posting their opinions. that is one of the things that makes this place great. i've tolerated a lot of opinions on this board, including yours mike. i don't see why people need to bludgeon ed to death when he has come out and said he is ok.

So I'm right about what I said before. You can't understand that being a fan does not mean putting a positive spin on everything, but that sometimes it means you call it as you see it.

Because Ed was sick, and when people have gone through something like that it's natural to comment on how they look afterwards. It's not a negative attitude. It's not "oh my god he's going to die tomorrow." It's simply people describing what they see. Do you not like them describing it? Would you rather have them try to put a good face on it (lie about what they think)? This is a discussion board, and people come here to discuss. Saying nothing isn't really realistic.

I wasn't going to post any reply, particularly after MikeL took up for me (gracias, Mike), but some clarification seems to be in order.

First, I am a fan. I'm a big fan. My post was intended to take the tone of concern, not criticism, and certainly not "negative spewage".

You'll also note that I originally posted this in the guitar room, because I'm more familiar with the regulars over there, and frankly I didn't want to post to the main because I've noticed that things have a tendency to digress toward the confrontational over here sometimes. This experience does nothing to change that opinion. [img]graemlins/cry.gif[/img]

Agreed...I thought it was put up in the guitar room as a 'hey check out this pic of our favorite guitarist!' not as a health analysis or a squabble starter.

The thing is that this is old news, these pictures and discussions have been around in huge numbers since the golf tournament last year and I am surprised the mods didn't shut it down. Sometimes it's beneficial to do a search before posting, I am not slamming anyone, just making a point.
