KSHE Interview w/Sammy

This is a cut and paste job from the SHML. The person that transcribed this just typed and typed, and didn't bother to fix anything, so don't blame me. It's kinda hard to follow, but do your best. I know my eyes started to hurt a bit. The interview was conducted at the Cantina in Cabo on 10/13.

"They start out (Favazz and Sammy)with hello's and Sammy said he would
not have recognized Sammy in Cabo, but if he was in STL and he say
him walking down the street, Sammy would know it was Favazz.
Sammy says: This is the most awesome b-day bash since the opening of
the Cabo because of the new video of THC and end of the movie,a year
of Sammy's life with footage ffrom STL~ "Long Road To Cabo", so it
had to end in Cabo. He's so happy. It's like an end of an era for
Sammy. It's not a bad thing and he's starting a new life for which
is "Not For Sale" he wants everything for free. Like the free show in
San Fran. Long Road to Cabo will be out next year with Live Record.
His whole career, Montrose, before & after VH with footage from the
STL show Sept. 8th 2001. Sammy says it was the best rock concert he
and the Wabo's have ever done, that's in the can. Plus will add the
new music from N4S and footage from b-day bash in Cabo. Extra cd with
book and movie. It's kinda like a "Rattle & Hum" documentary style
with and artsy feel.
After 7 yrs, the first house band was Los Tres Gusanos, really fun,
so far was the highlight of the b-day bash but he's going to try to
outdo on b-day.
Favazz "What did you do today? Had sex first?"
Sammy "No that was later, got up at noon, did the video shoot of
driving a car out of town for THC video, to end the video. I was
driving a '61 Falcon Futura convertible, which has been in cabo for
100 years. It's shot. It broke down after the video, came home had
sex, had some food and some shots. Sammy says "I'm burnt and I am
fried. There's something about rock-n-roll, he don't need no doctor,
you walk out on-stage and everyone is going to sing Happy Birthday
and he's going to start to dig down deep, maybe start another fire.
Favazz "Are you glad the Sam and Dave show is over? Would you ever do
it again?"
Sammy starts laughing...he says "Oh! God no!" laughs, "Oh! God yes
to the 1st question and Oh! God no for the 2nd one." "I thought it
was a good idea in the beginning cause Dave is tricky and oh buddy,
buddy "Hey man we can do this" and Sammy was looking for the VH
reunion for all of us because that's what the fans want, not what he
wants, the fans want to see us all together. As one big happy
family, so I thought I'd go out and test the water and if Dave's
cool, then Dave and I will go get Al and Eddie, cause Mikey's in, get
them and say "Okay let's do it and we'd make it happen be he's (DLR)
is such an asshole, such a fuckin idiot! He's such a prick. He's
like no fun, so atleast I learned that. It saved him the agony of
what if I would have gone on the Sam and Dave and VH tour and found
about Dave and he'd (Sammy)quit or something then he would then be
the bad guy again. I think the fans, the REDheads out there that
have supported me before Vh, during VH and after VH, they deserve
something great and DLR didn't want to do something special like come
out on stage with me, DLR didn't want to make it special. He didn't
want to raise the bar a little bit. He wanted to go out there,
pretend he was in 1982 and act liek he was God. And that screwed the
whole thing up, because I'm not into that. It's not about who the
best singer is. This is about 2002, not 1982 Dave. I wanted to do
something special and different. The ticket prices were too high and
they will never be that high again for a Sammy Hagar concert and Dave
had to be paid the same amount as me, and he didn't deserve it. So
next time, I'll find another partner or it will be VH or we'll just
keep doing what we're doing with the Waborita's. Hell, there ain't
nothing wrong with that. "I'll drink to that" and they laugh and do
a shot.
Favazz: "Have you spoke to the brothers at all since the tour, have
they tried to contact you at all or nothing?"
Sammy: "No. We all know Eddie's got personal problems right now and
so that's tough going through a divorce. I went through it 13 years
ago, so I'll be the first to say "Eddie you got your hands full
brother, go ahead and take care of that first" and then you know you
don't want a guy out on the road worrying about that, so no. But I
would imagine it's just a matter of time, it's enivitable and he
can't imagine it not happening. It's not like I'm living for that but
Mike and I are such good friends and now we've been doing this Mikey
series and the 2 weeks here and we're sitting here going, hmmm? Mikey
hasn't heard from them so it's like VH is truly on hold or maybe
there is no such thing anymore which is a shame. It's way too good.
It's not about the money, it's about "that is too good of a
thing". "The fans were so hardcore and they were so great, you can't
just do that to them so that's again why I did it with Dave, hoping
it would kindle something. But my God if anything it set the whole
thing back. I screwed up folks!!"
Favazz: "I read this somewhere~ Did you say Dave spray paints his
hair on?"
Sammy: "Well, yeah! But that's just a guess. I don't know how it
happens. If you see Dave during the day, it's one thing and you see
him at night on-stage, it's another and you're going "ok what happens
in between there cause it's like, I don't know. I don't want to burn
the guy so bad but either way I don't know if it's a wig or he spray
paints his hair platinum and then puts a wig on too, of course. The
hair is the whole thing, Favazz. I'm not down on anyone losing their
hair, look at Mikey, thank you God." Favazz says "You are lucky!"
Sammy says "Yeah I am. I got my hair, Mikey don't, but you gotta
grow up and go with it, so what! Look at Sting, Peter Gabriel, some
of the greatest artists of all times, they're out there not trying to
move their hair around and do this and do that. You know what you
grow up and be a man. Look at Bruce Springsteen, we're all getting
thin up thre~go with it Dave~you don't have to pretend. It's
pretending and trying to fool the people. It's mirrors and smoke.
Smoke and mirrors. Fuck a bunch of smoke and mirrors. Get down and
show us what you got. That's what I'm about and the gret artist and
my heroes are all about! Keith Richards, the most burnt, most ripped
up, tired, hard-driven son-of-a-bitch on the planet and is my hero
because he stands up & says "No, this is me, this is Keith Richards"
God bless him that's why we love Keith Richards. What if Keith went
and got a facelift and stuff? Come on now?"
Favazz says: "He's on the cover of the Rolling Stones this week with
no shirt on, you can see his switchblade hanging out of his jeans
over here, it's cool!"
Sammy: "Hell Yes! You know what I'm saying, Keith hasn't grown up but
atleast he's going with the old age, I mean go with it!"
Favazz: "I just want to say thanks to Sammy Hagar. You are the Best,
there's just no doubt! You are the best live and your a good guy,
man. And you don't need to do stuff like this, interviews and we all
know how tight you are with K-She in St. Louis but never take this
stuff for granted."
Sammy: "Favazz, if this wasn't K-She and St. Louis coming all the way
down here, you're right. As hard as I've been working this last 2
weeks with the video, and the movie, and the band rehearsin and the
Mexican Meltdown, which is now called the "Cabo Wabo Weekend" And my
birthday bash, my family, my kids, I love them, my jet skis, my fast
cars and my tequila, I would never talk to you Favazz. Thank God
your from St. Louis and K-She!"

Sammy is such a 2 faced peace of shit!! He says he's not into bashing a guy for losing his hair ,but brings it up anyway,and continues on and on about all these peopole who have lost their hair. He is such a hipocrite. Talks about not desperatley wanting back in vh. He said in interviews in the past that no way he would go back,unless Ed apologized. Now he says its enivitble. Sam would kill to be back in VH because of the MONEY!!!! hE SAYS TICKET PRICES WERE TOO MUCH,and that wojuld never happen again. Well why the hell did it happen this time? He is such a 2 faced liar,turning everything on to Dave. He bad mouths Dave every chance he gets,but is the 1st one in line to appear with the guy on Mtv awards. Sammy is nothing more than a cry baby. I used to actually respect the guy but not anymore. Every interview it's the same old shit. Dave is this, Dave did that. He brings the shit up without even being asked. Constant complaining is a sure sign of insecurity and Sammy is one insecure asshole. His ego stands out like a neon light at night. No wonder the brothers don't want him in the band.

Agreed. Sammy always tries to portray himself as the "nice guy" of the VH situation. He's as self centered as any of them. Sammy saying the reason for Dave's success on their tour was because of his fat ass. Gimme a break. I went to the Universal shows and the crowd was all over Dave. The biggest applause Sammy's band got was when MA came out on stage. Trust me, without Dave on the bill, Sammy would not have drwn crowds the size I was a part of at those shows. I can't fucking stand him.

First of all I agree that Sam on his own wouldnt have drawn the crowds he and Dave did together and neither would Dave, what did Dave draw down in FL, a few hundred fans stuck around to see him as the closing act.

Sam also commented on Mike's hair loss so he wasn't just ripping on Roth. I also find it funny that the same fans who whine about Roth hair comments call Sam fat and say he dresses like a clown, somethings never change.

DLR is in a seperate category then Sting and Gabriel. They are musicians, Roth is about the show and appearance of things. I think Dave's attitude came from his youth and good looks. Now that some of that is lacking, he has to try to regain that.

I have to agree that Sammy's comments have been contradictory. But let's face it guys, so have Dave's. I can't figure out what the hell is going on with either of them.
For those of you that continue to rip on Sam w/ blind hatred, remember one thing: He still appreciates his fans, and I truly believe he wants to do the right thing for the fans.

Yes, one minute it's we should all do a tour together, then the next it's, I'll never do a gig w/ Dave again.
Let's remember everyone that we do NOT, as much as we speculate, know what's going on behind the scenes.

It sounds like some of you in this thread hate Sam so much, that you will not accept anything less than Dave rejoining VH. IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN. You all know the reasons why. They tried TWICE. They just can't get it together, not to mention all the bullshit w/ that snake Ray Daniels. I'm not saying Sam's gonna be back in, but please, the childish remarks leave no room for a constructive discussion about it.

Let's all calm down and remember that no matter who you prefer (you all know I prefer Sam), it would still be great seeing them again on stage, listening to some long-awaited REAL Rock N' Roll.

BTW, it's a fact that Sam received an extremely favorable response on this summer's tour. I was @ the Tampa show and they were both great, but @ that particular show, Sam got a much warmer response. It has also been reported, on this board and in the media, that Sam sounded better and did a show that was many times more fan-friendly.
Anything else said is out of hatred for him.

I was at one of the shows here in Jersey (8/20) and beleive me bro, DLR kicked ass and took names. If anyone tells you different they're lying. All you had to do was hear and see the crowd.

Fanatic, I usually don't respond to someone w/ the signature of VH's death in 1985. If that's what you think, remember that it was YOUR boy who killed them, which is ONE of MANY contradictory things he's said in the past & this summer.

There are too many to name my friend, but here are a few:

In '85, he said, VH tossed him out. He now says that he hauled ass b/c things got rough up until the last three months w/ the band. Poor fucking Dave: He didn't get to be quarterback, so he took his football home & told everyone to kiss his ass.

Throughout VH's tenure he fought to keep any keyboard material off of the albums. Ed would no longer be manipulated by him, hence two of the greatest songs in VH's catalogue: Jump & I'll Wait. He now plays Jump @ every show.

In '96, he said that Ed & co. told him he was in the band. He later said that the awards thing was a publicity deal to promote the BOV1.

He told Sam that the band just can't get it together after trying twice to reunite. He now blows a kiss to Eddie Van Heineken & says, you know my number babe. Yeah Dave, EDWARD VAN HALEN is going to call your sorry ass so you can pull the same shit you did in the past.

This summer he was willing to flip flop openings & closings, via a coin toss. The tour begins & he fights w/ Sam constantly about being an opening act.
These are just a few.

Finally, we both agree that they both jammed this summer. You say he was better @ yours. I wasn't there, but if it was anything like the Tampa show, then the only thing I will agree w/ you on is that he was damn good & it was great to see him again, even though I still harbour ill feelings toward him for shitting on the fans @ VH's peak in '84(I hadn't seen him since '84.)
There was no comparison @ the Tampa show. Sammy flat out was the better man that night and I'm not saying that b/c I prefer Sam. I love the Dave era just as much, never claimed otherwise. I do however think that they were as good, and IMO much better live during the Sammy era.

MAX, I may be wrong on the year, but I've got it somewhere that he claims that Ed & the boys threw him out over the 4-song solo album he did after '84. I don't know where it is, but you know me. I don't talk out of my ass, and I'll look for it & send it to you when I have time. I do work bro. I wouldn't make something like that up. Why would I? What would be the point bud?

SHOCK, I do believe that you have in fact read it somewhere but I honestly do not think Dave was the one who said it. It was probably The Lying Dutchmen. I remember those two going back and fourth so much back when it happened. Those two guys were telling so many different stories that they could not keep any of them straight. I do have the first MTV specials from both camps and both Dave and Ed stated that Dave was the one who pulled the plug.
