Killer stuff! Great version of Detroit 442. Goldfinger was cool.

Always thought this was one of the coolest openings to an album.

The old school rings, then they just slam right into it.

My wife bought the CD with this song back in 1999 …

"It's so lonely at the top because it's so crowded at the bottom" - Diamond David Lee Roth

"The truth sounds like hate to those who hate the truth" - Todd Wagner

"Women and Children First ... The REAL Van Halen III"

No Exit. It's an awesome record. A wide variety of musical styles and they do them all very well.
Screamin' Skin, Happy Dog, Nothing is Real, Maria, The Dream's Lost on Me, Boom Boom in the Zoom Zoom Room...lots of goodies.

    Live version is killer.

Shoulda been in Deadwood. LOL. I love it!

    Early CBGB. They sound great.
I think that's Chris doing his best Jimmy Page. LOL.

    Man, is she fine here.

I ask this seriously and not to hate but a thread dedicated to Blondie and some of you cats go gaga for her in her prime. What's the deal? I don't see it. Female pioneer?

    GOD DAMN, SHE IS FINE.

This is amazing early footage, i haven't seen before.

I always liked the image of the band, as well.
They had a sort of cultured, sophisticated look, and then you had Debbie
with her movie star looks & NYC attitude.

The new Suzi Quatro documentary is great btw, and Debbie is in it.
    She gives huge props.

Mary Weiss, though, may be the root of all of them (The Suzi's, The Debbies, etc.)
She was so cute, but still from Queens & a badass.
    Loved her voice.

Yeah, I was loving it when I first saw it. What a treat it woulda been to see them during that time.

Their look did kinda grab ya. It was the punk era but like you said...they upscaled it.

Haven't seen that doc yet. Mary is for sure the key influence. You totally hear it in that song and a lot of others they did. That was their scene, back then, when they were teens. You can hear it in other 70's artist, as well. Eddie Money and Aerosmith come to mind.

    New York Dolls, too.

The Dolls even covered "Great big kiss."

I love how the Dolls were punky & ragtag, but you could hear them trying to
    copy some of that influence.

It sounds safe today, but way back then, a young Steven Tyler or Johnny Thunders
were impressed with that sort of "from the streets" vibe of the Shagri-Las.

Great voice, I think. Great musicians, as well. Not a lot of women fronting rock bands, back then. She paved the way (pioneer) for many after.

Understandable some don't like them. That 70's NY music scene, Talking Heads, Blondie, Ramones....not everyone's thing.
    I love it.
