This kind of pisses me off that VH didn’t give us die-hards a little something extra. Especially with all this bullshit waiting we’ve been doing. You know there’s got to be at least a couple of (almost) finished tunes left over from every album. I’ve only bought one of the re-masters (FW) just to check out the sound quality. Like most of you, I already have the first 6 on CD, I’m not going to go out & cough up more coin for the same exact thing (granted it sounds a little better). I will buy these CD’s eventually when the CD’s I have now get older & scratchier but not right now. Is anybody else pissed off about this or am I just being pissy today??

    So my question is:

Should VH have added more to the re-masters????

    Or

Are they fine just the way they are????

I think that with all the hoopla of what has and has not been going on with VH these days, I'm wondering if the "re-masters" were to have originally signified that more things were on the way (ie: reunion announcement, tour, cd, etc). However, with the lawyers, Ed's cancer and Dave's wanting to hit the road, I think that was all put on hold...thusly making the re-masters a bit of a wasted effort.

Granted, I'm not saying they don't sound better, but if I were the brains behind the machine, I would only have started the re-mastering process to lead to something bigger and better right around the corner.

Now, to the question at hand...should they have included more to the re-masters than they did? I'll admit I'm a little disappointed there wasn't some fresh little demos not thrown on there, but I guess I'm OK with what we got. I will say that with the new Motley re-masters, it's kinda cool to see about 3-6 new additional cuts on there...and it's not like VH doesn't have some extra gems laying around in someone's studio.

I haven't bought any of the remastered CD's but I probably would have if they included bonus tracks. The way they are, it just seems like you're buying the same thing again except for a slightly different sound.

Considering that the BOV1 video started at 1984, maybe the remastered albums should have contained videos from each era. Put the VH 1 promo vids on the first album, the Kirshner vids on the second one, that Loss Of Control video on WACF, the three Oakland vids on Fair Warning, Oh Pretty Woman on Diver Down.

In retrospect, I wish they had added extra tracks to the remasters. There must be a ton of unreleased material, most (all? ) of which we'll never hear. Why not throw it out there in good updated sound? I used to think the original albums were pure, and shouldn't be tampered with, but now I don't see the harm. It's still the same album, so what if there's two or three extra tracks added on there?

I'm glad they left them as is - if they had put songs on there I didn't have, I would've felt compelled to buy the albums for a third time, and now that I'm married I have a hard enough time finding the funds for 1 or 2 albums every few months, never mind six that I've already bought twice!

You know what would have been absolutely amazing video addition to the remasters?

How about if they had taken a two hour live gig with Dave (not sure they ever actually played that long, but bear with me), chopped it into six pieces, and put a 20 minute section on each of the remasters!!

Granted there's problems. First off, like Billy said, you'd annoy people who don't want to buy the albums again but feel forced to by adding this. But let's face it, that would have been COOL.

Yes, I think that the remasters should have had bonus unreleased tracks, or at least some live tracks, there is definately enought room on the CD's!

It always annoyed me that the Roth era VH albums are all only around thirty minutes in lengh.

I don't regret buying the remasters though, they sound quite a bit better than the originals.

See it's topics like this that makes me stand up for what Kiss does for their fans. Hell they always seem to have some new video with unseen footage from some concert, or something new ,or a rehashed new, version of the same old songs over and over again. At least their fans ALWAYS get something new every year it seems.

And yes I obviously agree with the original question. Pull out some shit from the vaults Van Halen. All it's gonna do is sell. LOL. Out.

I originally thought no, but now I would say YES. I wish they had included a few unreleased tracks on each of the original six remasters.

    Another angle, though it obviously would never have happened;

What would you have thought of the remasters being available on only 3 cd's? VH 1 and 2 on one disc, WACF and Fair Warning on the second disc, and Diver Down and 1984 on the third disc.

Being that the longest album is about 35 minutes, it would have worked time-wise.

Well, in that vein, maybe they could've done as ZZ Top did - release the six remasters individually, but also put 'em all together in a similar manner to ZZ Top's Six Pack, where the six albums were available as a 3 CD set with a more extensive liner note book included.

My thought is No Way do you change what has already been done.

However, I do think that the Re-Masters were to be the preclude to a reunion with Dave. Even though it has not happened.

Maybe lawyers, maybe this, maybe that...but a preclude to what could be one of the greatest reunions ever in the history of music !!
