You know...sitting here watching another VH1 Behind the Music and wondering if they will ever do one on Van Halen. Somehow, I think the story in itself might take up more than the allocated 1 hr.
It's the same episode- just different characters (or bands): Band starts as best friends, Band gets big, Band drinks & does drugs etc, falls out of limelight, comes back and all is good now. However I always find it entertaining to watch.

NO WAY IN HELL will one episode surfice. Not gonna happen. 1 hour is "Not Enough" as it were. Who knows what the future will hold? They do always seem to show groups when they are making a "comeback" or whatever. Just like when they did Rockline everytime, always TWO Mondays in a row. No other group has ever done that. Maybe BTM will do the same? Out

Many recent shows have been "coveniently" premiered around the release of a band's record-AC/DC and Bon Jovi are obvious ones I can recall. It's been proven to help record sales or generate interest in groups that have fallen out of the limelight. I read that Poison's record sales shot up after their BTM show. VH's story has all the makinga of a BTM "plotline".

Funny how VH1 is an acronym for Van Halen one. We don't get this show up in Canada. Sounds like we aren't missing much.

I've seen a couple good ones, like the one on Phil Lynott. I wonder how quickly they throw those shows together?

generally, the show is really good.
the problem is, the stories are all turning out to be very much the same.
there is, however, no substitute for the VH soap opera. VH-1 needs to devote AT LEAST two, maybe three hours to do the story justice.

I'm kind of glad that Van Halen turned down VH1's request to be interviewed for "Behind the Music". It seems to me that many of the artists featured are either finished or are way past thier prime and trying to make a "comeback", like Quiet Riot, Poison, Motley, Bon Jovi, the Bangles, etc. I don't want to see Van Halen lumped in with the "has-been" acts. Plus, I would hope that the Van Halen story is far from finished, thus a "BTM" episode would be premature anyway.
I guess for purely selfish reasons, yeah, I'd like to see as much VH footage on TV as possible, but I think it's a wise move for the band to distance themselves from "BTM" at this point.
That brings up a question that I've wondered about: if VH1 does a show on Van Halen, should it be "Legends" instead of "BTM".
If it was up to me, they'd be on "Legends", but I'm not sure if they're perceived as "legendary" yet by the music industry.
Maybe after they conquer the world again?

My guess is that a behind the music special will happen after the announcement when VH is all over the air waves and on every cover of ever magazine.

We've touched on this before. I'd be lyin if I said I wouldn't watch it, but to be honest with you, an appearance on "BTM" almost reeks of desparation (most bands on the show will never be platinum again). Besides if the bands going to be moving foward do they really need to reopen all those old wounds. I think "BTM" is really beneath the mighty VH. They always have the black and white shots of cocaine on a mirror and the cheesy piano music while dudes are having quiet, reflective family moments. If VH are gonna be on anything, it needs to be 'Storytellers'. Man, I know Dave could tell some stories. Don't you really wanna know the inspiration behind 'Unchained'?

I would love to see VH on BTM. Would take more than one hour though. They have been strtching lately The GooGoo Dolls was a great story
the climax of the show was the lead singers writers block
.
anyway, I heard an interview with the creator of BTM and he said the show they had comin up in the fall that they were excited aboot was Cat Stevens. I am kinda pumped aboot that one...he had a lot of good songs back in the day and he has a good story too.
