Anybody know why Ed's so opposed to doing Behind The Music?

I think because it's such a soap opera/tabloid style program. Does he really want to hash up a bunch of bad feelings, especially if a reunion is in the works with Dave? I've always taken him as a head forward type of person, so I couldn't see him wanting to dwell on the past like that. His private life is his own and whatever he's got to say, he'll either say it directly or through music. Actually, I was kind of surprised to see Valerie doing the Headliners program and the Lifetime Biography because those are pretty much the same thing.
Could this be magic?

I know that Van Halen has not done one with VH1, I was just wondering if Ed has ever said he was against doing it ?

I kind of think that if the boys reunite with Dave, release some New music, tour and such ; that then might be the best time to do one. This would help promote a reunion.

I think he is afraid of being made out to look like the bad guy.

The truth hurts...

I think Ed needs to get beyond the fear of public crucifictions and realize that a program like BTM is muc, much, more than a soap opera...It's a HUGE, HUGE marketing tool for a band....It's reinvented popularity for bands like KISS, Aerosmith, and Def Leppard..The demographic for this program is off the charts...Teens are watching it as well as old farts like me. It could be a tremendous tool for opening up VH to a whole new generation....Their story kicks ass over most of these shows...

I heard that they were asked to do one, and that everyone agreed except Dave, because Dave would only do it if it was done on his solo career. This was back in '98 btw.
I am awesome

I saw screw a Behind the Music and go straight for a Legends. Hell, they could get Dave to narrate it for them.

Most of the time, when you see one of these Behind the Music or Legends type shows, they tell the story then end on an upnote--i.e. the band is back together, the singer has kicked his drug habit, etc, etc.

In this case, they don't really have an ending yet. People need closure, and I don't think the producers would want to just leave the thing up in the air, then roll credits.

If and when the official Dave-is-back announcement is ever made, they'll have the ending they're looking for, and you can start looking for a VH special. And boy, is it gonna be a good one!

About 2/3 of the Behind The Music episodes have been bands that were left for dead and then somehow reunited. Obviously Van Halen falls into this category. And just like the Bad Company and Fleetwood Mac episodes, by the time the VH episode airs, it will create the impression that nobody was sorry to see the end of Van Hagar or Van Danniels and that (as some of us have known all along) there is really only ONE Van Halen

Welcome back, Van HALEN!!!!

...It's the BAND and Dave is really the cat that can front VH. He sang his ASS off and was really cool. No cheese here guys, this is filet Mignon! - Steve Lukather's comment after witnessing a Van HALEN 2007 rehearsal
