Book: "6th Grade Can Really Kill You"

I don't know if this has been brought up before, but it was a new "find" for me.
Children's author Barthe DeClements wrote a book in the 80's called "6th Grade Can Really Kill You". It won a bunch of awards and is now required reading for 6th graders in some schools. It has a VH reference in it that I thought was cool. It's in a chapter called "Heads Up!".

Scene: One 6th grade girl, Helen, is narrating. She is going to her friends house to give her friend, Louise, a birthday gift.

>>> Louise met me at her door, took her album present I was carrying and had the birthday wrapping torn off before we even reached the living room.
"Aw Right! Van Halen! I love David Lee Roth, don't you?"
I sat down on the davenport beside her. "I like Eddie Van Halen, myself"
"His grin is dynamite. But the hair in David Lee Roth's chest! Couldn't you just imagine running your fingers over it?"
I couldn't. Louise and I are so different.<<<

Not really sure if DLR's chest hair is suitable subject matter for 6th graders... but what the hell, right???

wow! really, i'll have to get that from the schools library.. I might have the book. i'll really have to check because the author sounds really familiar!

I know that I was diggin' DLR's chest hair when I was in 6th grade, but I would have been shocked to read about it in a book.
