Hey guys, I'm going to buy one remasters CD, which one sounds best and why. Also describe the booklet artwork in detail, this way those of us who are having to be choosey will have some idea as to what to expect.

It could be because I was most eager to hear them, but I would say that Diver Down and VH II are by far the ones that impressed me the most. I didn't notice as much difference in VH 1 or 1984. In my opinion, most improved to least improved would go like this
Diver Down
VH II
WACF
Fair Warning
VH 1
1984
Just my opinion, and I'd love to see others.

I couldn't find DD today. But of the other 5 I would say VH2 impressed me the most.

Interesting. I was thinking about getting "1984" first. The quality of the original is OK, but it's in SERIOUS need of a bass, drum, and overall volume boost.
Oh, well, I'll end up getting them all eventually, anyway. Can't wait to crank the remastered "Full Bug"!!

I didn't find that Unchained blew me away as much as I thought it would sound wise, but I agree about Romeo Delight. In RD, you can really hear Mikey chunking away behind the guitar solo.
On every CD, there seems to be something I noticed that was bigger, and something that wasn't. For example, the first guitar solo on And The Cradle Will Rock (before Dave says the Junior's grades line) is much quieter than I expected. And I thought So This Is Love would sound beefier than it does. But right after that is Sunday Afternoon and One Foot Out The Door, and I think those sound much bigger.

OK, I got 5 remasters: VH II thru 1984.
I put 1984 in the car CD player immediately. The first thing I noticed is that it's louder than the original. On the original, I would have to crank up the volume to level 18 or 19 to get it nice and loud. With the remaster, I only have to turn it up to 14 or 15 to get the same volume.
Next thing I noticed was the bass and drum levels have really been beefed up. On the original 1984 CD I had to really crank the bass setting on the CD player to get it to sound decent. On the remaster, I can leave the levels at a more normal setting and it sounds G O O D!
I've only had a chance to listen to parts of 1984 and Diver Down so far.
Let me tell you: when Al & Mike kick in at the beginning of "The Full Bug" it is THUNDEROUS! I was just sitting in my car going "holy shit, I LIKE THIS!!" (Of course it helps to have a subwoofer behind the back seat!)
THIS is how Van Halen was meant to sound!

I'm moving this topic to Opinions. It seems more suited for there.
