Who cares? Hopefully never. The Pleasure Dome and it's webmaster were a total disgrace.
"One of the reasons I left Sabbath was because Van Halen was blowing us off the stage every night. It was embarrassing." -Ozzy Osbourne
"When I first heard "Runnin' With The Devil" on the radio, I was stunned and found myself dizzy, walking through my high school hallways thinking, "What was THAT?!"
Eddie Van Halen was so innovative and kicked so much ass, and David Lee Roth was for a time indisputably the Greatest Man in America.
If aliens came down and challenged us to a Battle of the Bands to decide the fate of Planet Earth, I would feel very confident putting early Van Halen forward as our champion." -Tom Morello
"There is no heir to the throne of Eddie Van Halen. Nobody sits on that throne. Nobody takes that throne. Here's why it's different with Eddie: when a great guitar player passes, you just move on to another, right? But in this case, Eddie wasn't just a 'guitar player'. We're talking about a guy who changed culture and how we play guitar. He was like an alien coming in and fucking everything up so much that even the legends beforehand are like, 'Okay .. what is happening here? What sorcery is this?'" -Nuno Bettencourt

I think VH is about to launch the show for 2002 and they dont want to let the cat out of the bag in advance to the die hard fans. In order to get the ball rolling a lot more people will have to know things like orders for equipment, services,-halls will have to be booked, etc. VH does not want any info getting out before its time. (thats damn sure!) The best way to do this, like in any campaign - a war, politics, etc. is to control which info. gets out and at what time. The Dome would spread any info. that did leak way too fast and destroy the planned moment of release and all the hoopla!!!

The theory that VH is trying to "control the info" is plausible since that seems to be the way Van Halen operates. However, there's no way they can come close to stemming the tide with the variety of news outlets and instant flow of information on the internet. The internet is one medium that the band has failed miserably to master.

You know, the theory that the Dome would ever be the place to get the low down on VH amazes me. They'd edit/delete/banish before anybody saw it.
Sites like this one are where you're going to hear about those production orders first. Where'd we all talk about Eddie's cancer first? An official site will bring you no unofficial news, or official news before the marketeers release it.

Fuck, Lou, I'd figure you were so happy about the Eagles kicking ass yesterday that you might take a day to not slag on the Dome! You are one hard core mother fucker. I don't owe you any money, do I?
John 3:16, Can You Dig It?
People, the 6 wings of the Mighty Van Halen will fly again! Can You Dig It?
You gotta give more than you take! Can You Dig it?
And underneath the arch, it turned into a march,
and there He found a spark to set this fucker off!
Set it off, set it off now children, set if off!
We are down the road! I Can Dig It! Can You?

The only person who knows when the Dome will be back up is Brad Starks. I emailed him a few weeks ago and it was NOT going to be up soon. My advice is just to enjoy the discussion here at the Links.

I keep hearing talk about a contest rigging episode. I remember visiting the site back when VDIII was being made, but I don't remember any contests. Can someone fill me in on the situation? This has piqued my interest.
ExpandedConsciousness:
WOW!!! HOLYFUCKINGFUCK!!! What kind of Twilight Zone am I living in? What kind of Viagra-Testosterone mix are these 50 year old + guys on? I never thought I'd hear another Dave and Eddie album again. If I did, I thought it would be a mid-paced affair like the Rolling Stones or later day AC/DC. After the TATTOO single I was ready for a poppy album from old guys, with a few nods to harder rock (She's A Woman and Bullethead) and I would have been happy with that.
I NEVER THOUGHT I'D BE GETTING A FULL-THROTTLE HARD ROCK, HEAVY METAL, BALLS TO THE WALL, FUCKING VAN HALEN THRASH METAL ALBUM!!!

Come on guys, this rumor that that contest was rigged has been going on for years and I'm not saying it wasn't true at all, but has there ever been any real evidence of wrongdoing? None that I have ever seen, or have I missed it?

Count me in with the "who cares" crowd. There were some cool people on the 'Dome, but I like the layout and flow of VHF MUCH better, (even if the server is kinda slow at times) plus it doesn't contain all the bureaucratic posturing that often bogged down the PD to the point of tedium.
SBSWhat, me, worry?
