A British opinion of Coldplay... BLAND BLAND BLAND.... about as exciting as watching paint dry... grey.... dull... lifeless..totally uninspiring.. God!! I could go on!!

I was chatting about this last night watching them come away with another Brit award along with other bores like Franz Ferdinand etc. The UK press have built these guys up like demi gods and what used to be classed as rock just isn't any more.

The only thing I can compare them to is the old classification of progressive rock like Yes, King Crimson and the like and I wasn't into that too.

Call me old fashioned but I enjoy good old balls to the wall, kick ass rock 'n' roll with band members who have personalities.

No, actually they're the most overrated U2 ripoff since Simple Minds.

Did you see that fucking Idiot at the Grammy's trying to copy every Bono stage move from the fucking Unforgettable Fire tour.

Wonder why the camera wasn't showing Bono's reaction? He was probably laughing too hard.

Alright I may need a doctor. This is the second time this week that I agree with FORD.

Incidentally, U2 is a fucking exceptional band. My wife and I saw them at MSG this past November, and it was bordering on a religious experience. The crowd is truly the fifth member of U2. I haven't been that blown away at a concert in a loooong time.

Oh yeah and in case anyone forgot...COLDPLAY SUCKS!

Default Cat Stevens May Sue Coldplay: 'It Depends On How Well Satriani Does'

    from www.billboard.com:

    May 05, 2009 12:01 AM ET

Singer-songwriter Cat Stevens agreed on Monday that the Coldplay song, "Viva La Vida," sounds like one of his 1973 songs, but he stopped short of saying he would sue for plagiarism.

"My son brought it to my attention and said: 'Doesn't that sound like 'Foreigner Suite?'" the musician, now known as Yusuf Islam, told Reuters.

"The song definitely sounds like it," he said of his song. "It has such logical chords and the melody has to be what it is..."

Asked during a telephone interview from London whether he would pursue the issue legally, Islam, 60, said "it depends on how well Satriani does."

U.S. guitarist Joe Satriani has sued Coldplay, accusing the British band of copyright infringement. He claims substantial original portions of his song "If I Could Fly" are recycled in "Viva La Vida" and is seeking damages.

Islam, whose new album "Roadsinger," comes out on Tuesday (May 5), was unable to perform at a New York concert on Sunday because of "work permit" issues. The singer, a Muslim convert, said the problem was unrelated to his being denied entry into the United States five years ago because his name was on a government no-fly list.

"It's just been delayed by a week," he said of his trip to the United States to promote the album. "The day I was scheduled to go to the (U.S.) embassy they had implemented a new system. There were gremlins in the works, but they (U.S. officials) were all so nice."

Islam is scheduled to play one show in Los Angeles next week and appear on "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" on May 13.

    (Editing by Bob Tourtellotte)

Ok, I'm missing something here - if Satriani is suing because he thinks that "Viva La Vida" rips off "If I Could Fly", and Yusaf thinks "Viva La Vida" sounds like "Foreigner Suite" (the mind just boggles at that title!), shouldn't he then instead then sue Satriani for ripping off "Foreigner Suite"?

Your thought makes perfect sense to me. He is probably thinking that Coldplay have deeper pockets but based on all of the additional songs that have surfaced that sound like Viva La Vida, including Foreigner Suite, I think Joe's suit may have some rocky roads ahead. Of course who can predict what will happen in court.

I still can't get the image out of my head of Cat Stevens busting through "Hot Blooded", "Cold As Ice", "Dirty White Boy" and "Urgent" in a low-key acoustical suite!

I thought Simple Minds were around before U2? Agree Coldplay are shite though.

pretty much simultaneous. I only have one Simple Minds album (plus Don't You (Forget About Me). I don't see much similarity, unless you just point to the fact that both bands made soaring anthems in that period.

I never caught any similarity between SM and U2 myself. SM had a much "poppier" 80's sound to them.

    Now, Coldplay?

    Ah fuck it, why bother?

I decided to go on You Tube and see what Coldplay was all about.

I really didn't know. What I did know is that this band was playing 2 dates the the AA Center in June, so I wanted to try and figure out what their draw was.

Well, now I know, they are a suburban chick- alternative pop/rock band from Britan. They sorta sound like U2, and they're all about 'feelings'.

You have to have a Vagina to like this music.

So now, I move on, never to post in this thread again.

They are certainly a lot of alienated suburban chicks for this band to mine.

Not a fan, have never been a fan, nor will I ever be a fan of Coldplay.

But they're playing back to back nights at the Garden in a few months. Nobody does that these days, so they must have a huge following. More power to them.

Now, I'll go put on my Bose AE2 headphones and happily listen to Savatage.

Coldplay is racking up records for charting a #1 album.

The GMA host said that's getting up there with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin.

But racking up #1 albums in this day and age, in no way means that Coldplay are as good as those bands.

But here we are... I'd rather listen to those other bands any day than this...
