Since there is so much fun going on in the Tookie thread, how about this?

Is it our fault, or is nature taking it's course?

As conservative as I am, I think we're doing ourselves in. Mother Nature has had about enough of us and will handle things her own way to protect herself.

Regions of Africa with snow storms that have never before been seen, Alaska cancelling annual sled races because of lack of snow, record setting numbers (and more importantly, strengths) of hurricanes the last two years, China experiencing 30 degree temp drops in mere minutes, speculation that Europe is closing in first on the next Ice Age as the Gulf Stream has diminished 30% in strength in just a few years (plays an important role in the poleward transfer of heat and salt and serves to warm the European subcontinent)... and just the general increase of natural disasters...what do you think?

seriously though, the weird weather and other natural disasters this past year or so leads me to believe there will definitely be a climate change in our lifetime.

Its not very warm in THE CLAW right now, as a matter of fact when I took my trusty dog out for a peepee my left nut decided to leave.

It's payback time for Mother Nature. Although, regards the Europe thing, we haven't seen a hard winter in ages but apparently this season is gonna be one. No sign of it yet tho.

Personally I think its a load of crap. The way scientists are selecting the data is akin to pre-war data on Iraq. Its cherry picked. There are numerous scientists who disagree. I remember reading where two Russian scientists have bet something like a million dollars with two other scientists that the earth will start cooling over the next 20 years.

The media is partly to blame because every anomoly is blamed on global warming. Its hyping it up like the bird flu.

Its funny we had an mini ice age before the industrial revolution. What caused that? THe scientists said the sun was cooler due to less sun spots. Oh imagine that....a huge hydrogren ball in flames which is 93 million miles away has an impact on our planet.

You know what if it does happen, oh well. I am more worried about an asteroid hitting, WMD, the plauge, and John Kerry in a speedo than if the world temperature goes up a degree.

It’s being watched by astronomers all over the world, and if it looks like it will hit a body of land, they may try to figure out how to deflect it or break it up in space. Most asteroids that hit the Earth land in the ocean, since oceans cover most of the Earth’s area. NASA says that an impact from Apophis, which could come in 2036, would release more than 100,000 times the energy of the nuclear bomb that was detonated over Hiroshima in World War II. No matter where it does hit, we would all be affected by the nuclear winter that effect from millions of dust particles being released into the atmosphere. This is probably what killed off the dinosaurs.

Astronomers have tracked Apophis ever since it was discovered in June but it has only started worrying them now, because they say the odds of it hitting Earth in 2029 are alarming. We don't have much time to lose. It will take many years to design, test and build the technology we need to deflect the asteroid. Meteor expert Monica Grady says an impact by Apophis could cause "mass extinction…We are overdue for a big one."
